Description
The Drive Medical RTL12087 is a toilet safety rail with soft padded handles, for someone who wants a hand on each side while sitting down and standing up.
What does it do and how does it work?
A bracket sits on the bowl under the seat, and the seat goes back on over it.
- Take the seat off and keep its screws. Those screws hold the bracket and the seat.
- Brass push pins set the handles from 16.5" to 19.5" (41.9-49.5 cm).
- The front of each handle lines up with the leg that has the rubber tip. Those tips sit under the seat, and the person's weight helps hold the rail.
- The rail weighs 10.5 lb (4.8 kg) and is rated 300 lb (136 kg).
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Someone who can have the toilet seat lifted once, and wants padded handles beside the bowl.
- If the seat should stay on, the RTL12079 stands on the floor and does not use the seat screws.
- If the arms must change height, the RTL12000 adjusts in 1" steps and spans 19" to 23.50" (48.3-59.7 cm), still at 300 lb (136 kg).
- A wall handhold belongs on a grab bar.
Will it fit?
- The handles adjust from 16.5" to 19.5" (41.9-49.5 cm) between them.
- The bracket has to sit on the bowl, with the seat and lid able to close over it.
- Measure the space beside the bowl, or book a free home assessment.
Using it day to day
- Set each push pin all the way through its hole before anyone uses the rail.
- Check the seat screws from time to time and tighten any that have loosened.
- Bathroom safety items cannot be returned once they are used. See the return policy.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Use it to sit and to stand. It is not meant to hold your entire weight.
- The weight limit is 300 lb (136 kg).
- It is not a raised seat and not a wall bar. It does not bolt to the floor.
- Limited lifetime warranty for the original purchaser; see the Warranty tab. Claims go through our warranty service.
How does it compare?
- The AquaSense 770-665 adjusts from 28" to 32" (71-81 cm) and is rated 250 lb (113 kg), with plastic arms.
- The RTL12079 stays on the floor when the seat cannot come off.
- Other frames are on the toilet safety frame page.
Frequently asked questions
Does the lifetime warranty cover the handle grips?
No. Grips, rubber pieces, and casters wear in normal use, and the limited lifetime warranty leaves those parts out.
How does each handle lock on?
After the push pin is through the hole, put the E-clip into the back of that handle. Do the same on the other side.
Which way does the bracket face?
Point the tube on the bracket toward the tank, then set the seat and lid back on over the bracket.
