Description
The Eclipse Interceptor S940 GTX is a full-size four-wheel scooter for riders up to 450 lb (204 kg) who keep it at home and ride paved routes.
What does it do and how does it work?
- A 3 hp motor and 140 amp controller give a top speed of 15 km/h (9.3 mph).
- Two 12 V batteries, 75 to 100 Ah and sold separately, give up to 40 km (25 mi).
- Pneumatic 14 in front and 16 in rear tires run at 35 psi, with coil-spring suspension at both ends.
- Releasing the throttle sets the electromagnetic brake and holds the scooter parked; a hand lever adds stopping power.
- An LCD dashboard shows speed, distance, temperature, time and battery level, with LED head, tail, turn, hazard and brake lights.
- The delta tiller has a speed dial, half-speed button, glove box and two mirrors.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- A rider up to 450 lb (204 kg) who wants a fast, suspended scooter for pavement and park paths.
- It does not fold or come apart; travel scooters are the models built for a trunk.
- Avoid soft surfaces, tall grass, loose gravel and sand.
- For postural support, ask your therapist about a power wheelchair.
Will it fit?
- Length 61 in (155 cm), width 29 in (74 cm) and turning radius 71 in (180 cm).
- It weighs 363 lb (165 kg) with batteries; the seat and batteries lift out with two people.
- The seat is a high-back reclining swivel with a headrest; armrests flip up and adjust.
- The rated climb is 10 degrees (16%); drive straight up and never freewheel on a slope. A home ramp must be rated for the scooter and rider.
Using it day to day
- Check the tires at 35 psi every week.
- Charge 8 to 14 hours after daily use, or 12 to 14 hours weekly if you ride less; never more than 24 hours.
- Keep it out of rain and snow, dry it before charging, and store the batteries warm and dry.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- The 450 lb (204 kg) capacity covers the rider and cargo, and it carries one person.
- Do not attempt a curb over 4 in (10 cm), and never back down one.
- Use two 12 V batteries of the same type and Ah; never mix old and new.
Which batteries should I choose?
- Group 24 75 Ah pair or Group 27 96 Ah pair, both sealed lead-acid and sold separately.
- Colours are Red, Blue and Silver.
How does it compare?
The Pride Pursuit 2 is rated 400 lb (181 kg) with lithium batteries and a longer range. The Pursuit XL is 400 lb at 12 km/h with suspension.
Frequently asked questions
Are batteries included?
No. Choose the Group 24 75 Ah or Group 27 96 Ah pair.
Can I take it in a car?
It does not fold; at 363 lb (165 kg) it needs a van or scooter lift.
Can I ride in rain?
Avoid rain and snow, and dry it before charging.
Is the hand lever the parking brake?
No. Releasing the throttle sets the electromagnetic brake; the lever adds stopping power.
