Blake Fusion 4K XL Low Air Loss Mattress, 42 or 48 Inch

The Blake Fusion 4K XL is a true low air loss mattress replacement with a powered pump, 8 in (20 cm) thick, in 42 by 80 in or 48 by 80 in (107 or 122 by 203 cm), rated 500 lbs (227 kg).

What does it do and how does it work?

• Eighteen polyurethane air cells sit in a foam crib: 35 in cells in the 42 in mattress, 41 in in the 48 in.
• The foam crib forms 3.5 in transfer borders on each side and a 3 in foam border at the head and foot.
• Pulsation mode raises and lowers airflow in a repeating cycle; Static low air loss mode holds a steady airflow for microclimate management.
• Auto Comfort sets the pressure at setup; Auto Firm aids care, Upright Patient Mode supports the buttocks when the head is raised, and System Lock prevents changes.
• The quilted cover is water resistant, vapour permeable and flame resistant; the top nylon is antimicrobial, fluid resistant and breathable.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

• Blake lists pulsation for the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries stage I to IV; the care team decides.
• A person whose plan calls for low air loss and microclimate management.
• A wider 42 or 48 in deck: the 35 in Fusion 4K is the narrower system.

Will it fit?

• 42 x 80 x 8 in (107 x 203 x 20 cm) or 48 x 80 x 8 in (122 x 203 x 20 cm).
• The 500 lbs (227 kg) rating is the mattress limit; the bed frame's own safe working load applies if it is lower.
• The 48 in width needs a bariatric deck.
• At 8 in high, recheck the gaps to the rails. Health Canada recommends gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) within and under the rail, and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) at the rail ends. See bed rails.
• A mattress that has touched skin cannot be returned, so measure first. See the return policy.

Using it day to day

• Keep the pump connected and check the hoses and cover at each linen change.
• Plan for an outage: the pulsation and static modes stop without power, and the foam crib does not replace them.
• The foam crib is covered in a disinfectable nylon fabric; wipe it with a hospital disinfectant.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

• A true LAL pump unit is included with the system.
