Description
The Blake Geo-Matrix G3 is a non-powered gel mattress built in widths from 36 to 60 in. Three separate gel zones and a column core work without a pump, hose or outlet.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Gel columns share load with their neighbours, so pressure spreads as the body settles into the surface.
- The G3 carries 4.5 in of Geo-Matrix gel, the deepest gel layer in the G Series, in three separate zones.
- A foam perimeter border firms the edges for transfers and daily care.
- There is no pump, no calibration and no power failure risk.
Who is it for?
- Blake labels the G3 for prevention and healing of stage I to IV pressure injuries that are not complex, from reddened skin through to a wound that reaches the bone.
- A nurse, doctor or therapist should assess skin, mobility and positioning before choosing it.
- It suits someone who needs a fixed surface and a bed that is already sized.
- For moisture, a low air loss mattress manages it; this is a dry gel and foam surface.
Will it fit the bed?
- 36, 39, 42, 48, 54 or 60 in wide, 80 in long and 6 in high (15 cm). Codes run from G33680 to G36080.
- Custom widths are made to order; give the exact deck measurement first.
- Do not use 300 lb (136 kg) as the limit for this 6 in build. That figure is for the 7 in G3.
- At 6 in high, recheck the rail gaps. Health Canada recommends under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) within and under the rail, and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) at the rail ends. See bed rails.
- A mattress that has touched skin cannot be returned. Measure first and read the return policy.
What is the cover like?
- 4-way stretch, antimicrobial, fluid-proof and wipeable.
- Machine wash the cover up to 60 C (140 F) and hang it to dry. The G3 cover can take bleach.
- Do not bleach the gel, and do not wet the foam. Keep the mattress out of direct sunlight.
How does it compare?
- Geo-Matrix G2: coccyx and sacrum gel with pillowtop gel at the heel and shoulder, 6 in high.
- Geo-Matrix G1 Dual Zone: gel at the coccyx and heels, for prevention.
- Rhythm Multi: powered air with alternation and low air loss when the care team wants active therapy.
- Gel mattresses: the rest of the range.
Frequently asked questions
Does the G3 need power?
No. There is no pump and nothing to calibrate, so a power cut does not change the surface.
Can the gel leak?
Blake states the Geo-Matrix gel is closed cell and does not leak or puncture like an air cell. A torn cover is the failure to watch for, so check it at each linen change.
Is the 60 inch width a stock size?
No. The standard size is 36 x 80 in. Widths of 39, 42, 48, 54 and 60 in are made to order.
Is this the same as the 7 inch G3?
No. This listing is 6 in high. The 7 in G3 has a memory foam core and a 300 lb (136 kg) rating.
