The Drive Gravity 9 is a non-powered foam mattress that replaces the mattress on a homecare or long-term care bed. It comes in six size and edge combinations.
Who should consider it?
- The person's care team (nurse, doctor or therapist) decides which surface suits their skin and risk.
- People also search for bedsores.
- Drive does not label this model as treatment for a pressure injury.
How does it work?
Nothing plugs in.
Four latex-free foam layers sit under a full-width open-cell viscoelastic memory foam top, with a scored articulation base and a sloped, channel-cut heel section.
The line is made in North America, and the 39 inch width is offered on the Gravity 9 only.
What should you measure before ordering?
- Match the mattress to the deck, not to the outside of the frame.
- An 80 inch deck needs an 80 inch mattress.
- An 84 inch deck needs an 84 inch mattress.
- The 39 inch width is only 80 inches long.
- The person must also stay under the lower of 450 lbs (204 kg) and the bed's safe working load.

What use and care limits matter?
- Wipe the cover with a damp cloth, warm water and a mild detergent, then air dry it out of direct sun.
- Do not unzip the cover to clean it, and do not machine wash or autoclave it.
- On the stretch cover, a quaternary disinfectant is the recommended cleaner. Bleach mixed 1 to 10 is acceptable. Phenolic cleaners are not.
- Inspect the mattress every 3 months and between users. Foam compressed more than 30 percent may be treated as defective.
What should you compare?
- The Gravity 8 is the closer sibling if 400 lbs (181 kg) is enough and you want the die-cut top.
- The Gravity 7 is the one with a 76 inch length and a 350 lb (159 kg) rating.

Frequently asked questions
Do the raised side edges mean the mattress includes bed rails?
No. The raised edges are foam bolsters, not metal rails, and they are not claimed to stop entrapment or falls.
Will a 6 inch Gravity 9 work with my bed rails?
Only a test on that bed can say. Health Canada's 2008 entrapment guidance recommends gaps under 120 mm in zones 1 to 3 and under 60 mm in zone 4, under the rail at its ends.
Can I put a regular twin mattress on the hospital bed instead?
A household twin is a different thickness and cover, and it is not what the rails were spaced for.

Warranty details
Drive Medical warrants the Gravity 9 Premium pressure redistribution mattress (15970 family), bought new, against defects in materials, workmanship and assembly. The warranty covers the original purchaser only.
- Foam, 36 and 39 inch widths (15970, 15977, 15984, 15985, 15996, G9-39X80X6): 15 years.
- Foam, 42 inch widths (15970-4280, 15970-4284): 7 years.
- Cover: 3 years.
- Drive repairs, replaces or refunds at its option; labour and shipping are not included.
- Follow the cleaning instructions and inspect the mattress inside and out at least every 3 months.
- Excludes custom sizing or other changes to the foam or cover, negligence, accidents, sharp objects and tears, fire, improper storage, use without the cover or with a damaged cover, and unauthorized repairs or modifications.
