Handicare Band Sling, quilted standard, item 507720

The Handicare Band Sling, item 507720, is a quilted limb support for one arm or one leg, rated 450 lb (204 kg).

What does it do and how does it work?

A caregiver folds the band, slides it under the limb, and lifts that limb from the two loop straps.

• The band is about 28 in (71 cm) long and 9 in (23 cm) wide. Each strap is about 12.5 in (32 cm). Sizes are a guide, plus or minus 1 in (2.5 cm).
• Quilted open-cell foam and polyester mesh, with blue trim. It holds the limb for wound care, dressing, foot care, washing, a wrap, or surgery positioning.
• Under a hip it gives a small lift.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It is for a caregiver supporting one limb.

• Lifting the person needs a registered health professional's assessment of strength, trunk control, endurance, cooperation and cognition.
• A longer limb needs item 507740, about 34 in (86 cm) long, at the same 450 lb (204 kg).
• A single-patient band is disposable pack 507770-10. To turn the whole person, use the positioning sling.

• Item 507740 is 34 in (86 cm) long, 9 in (23 cm) wide, with the same 12.5 in (32 cm) straps.

Using it day to day

Fold it in half or in thirds, strap underneath, and slide it in where the limb leaves the bed, such as behind the knee.

• Keep the strap off the skin, then open the fold. A log roll is also allowed.
• Check for fraying, cuts or tears before each use. Discard a torn band.
• Wash in a laundry bag, up to 176 F (80 C). Expected life is up to 4 years.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?
