Description
The HealthCraft Advantage Pole (AR-AP-HD) is a floor-mounted support pole: a steel mast bolted to the floor with a 1.5 in (38 mm) pole set into it. It does not reach the ceiling and gives a person something to push or pull on when sitting, standing or transferring.
What does it do and how does it work?
The pole takes moderate vertical and horizontal load while the person sits, rises or transfers.
- Pole and mast: a 1.5 in (38 mm) steel pole with a non-slip foam grip, set into a 2.25 in (57 mm) mast on a 7.5 in (191 mm) floor plate.
- No bar: a plain vertical pole; the Advantage Rail is the version with a pivoting T-handle.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits a person with reduced mobility who can take their own weight and needs support to sit, stand or transfer.
- Cannot take their own weight: a patient lift; this pole is not intended to support full body weight.
- Wants a bar: the Advantage Rail.
- Shower or outdoors: the finish is water resistant, not waterproof; it is not for either.
- Beside a bed: dementia, confusion, restlessness, frailty or sedation raise the entrapment risk; it is not a restraint or a barrier.
Will it fit?
It needs a structurally sound floor, not a ceiling.
- Toilet or chair: 3 to 10 in (76 to 254 mm) in front of the knees and 2 to 6 in (51 to 152 mm) to the side.
- Bed: beside the waist; keep the gap to the mattress under 2.375 in (60 mm) or over 12 in (305 mm).
- Bathtub: base against the outside of the tub, about halfway along.
- Floor: tile or carpet over a sound floor; bolt into a joist or add blocking. Install only when the floor structure can be identified.
Installing it
It always needs drilling; it does not stand by tension.
- Six 1/4 x 3 in lag bolts for wood are included, with 2 in (51 mm) of thread.
- Concrete needs anchors not included: a 5/16 in sleeve or wedge anchor rated for 800 lb (360 kg).
- Mobility can install it; otherwise use a qualified contractor.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It is a fixed pole for one spot, not a portable or full-body-weight device.
- Portable: the AR-AP-P-HD is a separate part with floor plates; it is not this pole.
- Warranty: limited lifetime for the original purchaser; misuse, accidents, alterations, wear and corrosive cleaners are excluded.
How does it compare?
- The bariatric SuperPole is floor to ceiling and needs a flat 93 to 99 in ceiling.
- The SuperPole with SuperBar adds a bar and is rated to 300 lb (136 kg).
- A grab bar is fixed to the wall and takes no floor space.

Frequently asked questions
Can this pole become a rail later?
No. The T-handle is the Advantage Rail, a different product. This pole stays a plain vertical pole.
Can I move it to another room?
No. It stays bolted down. The portable model, AR-AP-P-HD, is a separate part.
How long are the pole and the mast?
The pole section is 31 in (787 mm) and the mast is 28 in (711 mm). The pole sets down into the mast, so the two lengths do not add.

HealthCraft Products warrants the bariatric Advantage Pole (item AR-AP-HD) against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the original purchaser.
- Term: limited lifetime, original purchaser only.
- Excludes damage from misuse, accidents and alterations, normal wear and tear, wood material and stain, and corrosive or abrasive cleaning products.
