Description
HealthCraft SPB-HD is a floor-to-ceiling transfer pole with a pivoting bar, for a person up to 450 lb. It is a handhold for standing and moving, not a support for full body weight.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Pole: 1.5 in (38 mm) alloy steel with a white anti-microbial powder coat, and a 20 in grip.
- Bar: 16 in (406 mm); lift to turn and lower to lock, in 8 lowered positions every 45 degrees.
- Height: 93 to 99 in (2362 to 2515 mm).
- Fixing: a jackscrew presses the pole between floor and ceiling, and the heavy-duty top plate is screwed into a ceiling joist.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
Choose SPB-HD when the person is over the 300 lb rating of the standard pole with a bar and a pivoting bar is wanted.
- No bar needed: the pole alone is SP-HD.
- Lifting: it is not a hoist. Choose a patient lift if the person cannot take their own weight.
- Bedside safety: dementia, confusion, sedation or frailty raises the entrapment risk. Do not place it beside a soft or compressible mattress.
Will it fit?
- Ceiling: 93 to 99 in. The Uni-Fit extender is rated 300 lb only, so no bariatric pole is offered over 99 in.
- Joist: the top plate must cross at least one ceiling joist, and it is screwed to the joist.
- Avoid: angled ceilings, radiant ceiling heat, loose floor coverings, unknown structure above the ceiling, direct water and outdoor use.
Using and installing it
- The jackscrew sets the tension; it does not by itself require drilling the floor. On this heavy-duty model the top plate must still be screwed to the joist.
- Use a qualified installer if you are not equipped for the work; a free home assessment can check the room first.
- Bed: tight to the mattress or at least 12.5 in (320 mm) away, and at least 12.5 in from the headboard and footboard.
- Toilet or chair: 3 to 10 in in front of the knees and 2 to 6 in to the side. Tub: base against the tub, about halfway along.
- The bar is usually set 24 to 38 in (610 to 965 mm) off the floor.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Capacity: 450 lb maximum user weight; it is not intended to support full body weight.
- Standards and warranty: HealthCraft states ASTM F3186-24 compliance. Limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser.
- Accessories: the SuperBar add-on kit fits an existing SuperPole; the Uni-Fit extender is a 300 lb part and does not fit this model.
How does it compare?
- Standard SuperPole with SuperBar: 300 lb, with the Uni-Fit option.
- SP-HD: the same bariatric pole without the bar.
- Grab bars suit a wall that can take one; all super poles are on the hub.

Frequently asked questions
Is SPB-HD the same pole as SP-HD?
No. SP-HD has no SuperBar; SPB-HD includes the bar. Both are rated 450 lb.
Can I install it with tension only?
No. The heavy-duty pole must be screwed to a ceiling joist, even though the jackscrew sets the tension.
What if the ceiling is taller than 99 in?
No bariatric pole is offered over 99 in; the taller extender is rated 300 lb.
How many ways does the bar lock?
Eight lowered positions, one every 45 degrees.
