Description

The HighStar positioning sling, items 116301 to 116403, is a loop-style bed sling in spacer or woven fabric for supine transfers and turning onto the side.

What does it do and how does it work?

It lies flat under the person and hangs from a ceiling lift's carry bar by its loops.

  • The four upper straps go on the bar at the head and knees; the lower straps may stay off if the legs are managed.
  • To turn a person, attach the straps on the side they turn away from, with a caregiver or bed rail on the side they turn toward.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • For a person who cannot help with bed moves and needs a ceiling lift.
  • Choose another sling if the person can sit up, or if you have a floor lift only.

Will it fit?

It fits a ceiling lift that accepts loop slings and comes in three widths, all 78 in (198 cm) long.

  • Widths of 42 in (107 cm), 54 in (137 cm) and 56 in (142 cm).
  • Check that the lift's carry bar takes loop straps and can sit along the sling or across it.

Using it day to day

  • Check the size and fabric, with the label on the outside, then attach every loop securely before raising.
  • Wash in a laundry bag at 80 C (176 F) maximum; no bleach, dry clean or iron, and air dry or cool tumble.
  • Inspect for tears and frays; remove it if deteriorating or the label is illegible.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • Weight limit: 1000 lb (454 kg) on the 42, 54 and 56 by 78 in sizes.
  • With proper care it should last about 2 to 3 years.

Which version should I choose?

The item number sets the fabric and width, and only the woven model offers handles and elastics.

  • Spacer: 116301 plain, 116302 elastics, 116303 elastics at 54 in, 116304 elastics at 56 in.
  • Woven: 116401 plain, 116402 elastics, 116403 handles and elastics; all 42 in wide.

How does it compare?

Frequently asked questions

Can I leave the lower straps off?

Yes, if the legs are managed safely; the four upper straps always go on the bar.

Can one caregiver turn someone with it?

A second caregiver or a bed rail must be on the side the person turns toward.

Will it fit a floor lift?

It is made for a ceiling lift that accepts loop slings; check the carry bar before ordering.
