Description
The Invacare Matrx Elite Backrest is Motion Concepts' rigid positioning back with a 3 in (76 mm) contour, foam padding and a removable Meshtex cover.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Shell: a moulded 3 in contour, 4 in (102 mm) overall, that follows the trunk lightly; side support comes from separate laterals.
- Foam: standard foam, or the SuperSoft upgrade of 1 in soft foam over 1 in firm HR foam.
- Cover: Meshtex as standard, with a wipeable slip cover available.
- Hardware: Easy Set quick release fits 3/4 in (19 mm), 7/8 in (22 mm) and 1 in (25 mm) canes, adjusts 2 in (51 mm) of depth and 40 degrees of angle, plus height and rotation, and sets with the user seated.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Standard positioning: for a rigid, lightly contoured back that positions the trunk without a deep shell.
- Side support: fixed or swing-away laterals are added when the trunk needs lateral control.
- Assessment first: an occupational therapist or physiotherapist chooses the back, its size and its settings.
Will it fit?
- Widths: 12 to 20 in (305 to 508 mm); the 12 and 13 in widths are being phased out, so the standard range starts at 14 in.
- Lengths: 10 to 20 in (254 to 508 mm) in 2 in steps.
- Model codes: PBE plus the width and length, for example PBE1618.
- Chair fit: each back fits chairs from its own width up to 1 in wider; Standard and Long pins are included, and Extended pins reach 2 in wider.
- Headrest: backs 14 in and wider by 14 in and longer are pre-drilled and include the adapter plate.
- Capacity: 300 lb (136 kg); the back weighs from 1.7 lb (0.8 kg).
Using it day to day
- Fixed laterals: standard or offset, left or right, installed inside the shell so they do not change the depth or angle range.
- Swing-away laterals: with a lock and release latch, for side transfers.
- Warranty: 2 years on the back; the removable outer cover is excluded.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- SuperSoft: not available on 14 in long backs, which are ordered as the Elite TR.
- Laterals: ordered separately; the standard fixed laterals do not fit the 12 or 13 in wide backs, which take Mini Fixed Laterals.
- Contour: 3 in only; for a deeper shell, choose the Elite Deep.
- Accessories: a Privacy Flap for 12 to 24 in backs and the Chest Harness Interface Kit are available.
Which version should I choose?
- Size: width and length from the PBE grid.
- Laterals and foam: fixed, offset, swing-away or Mini Fixed; standard or SuperSoft foam.
How does it compare?
The Matrx Elite Deep has a 6 in contour, and the Matrx E2 is a newer 3 in shell. See all wheelchair backrests.
