Description
The Invacare Matrx Elite Deep (EDB) is a rigid positioning back with a 6 in (152 mm) contour, for users up to 300 lb (136 kg).
What does it do and how does it work?
A contoured metal shell carries a removable polyurethane foam pad in a Meshtex cover.
- The sides come forward 6 in (152 mm). Side support is part of the shell, 8 to 8.5 in (20 to 21.5 cm) high.
- The inner width is 2.5 in (6.4 cm) less than the named width. A lumbar pad is included and sits behind the foam.
- Easy Set hardware is standard and quick-release. Power seating uses the fixed hardware instead.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
Motion Concepts classes the Elite Deep as a positioning back. An occupational therapist or physiotherapist sets the size and hardware.
- Choose a 3 in (76 mm) Matrx E2 when you want less support at the sides.
- Over 300 lb (136 kg) needs the heavy-duty Elite Deep, rated 500 lb (227 kg).
Will it fit?
Match the named width and height to the chair and the person. We confirm both before you order.
- Widths are 14 to 20 in (36 to 51 cm). Heights run from 10 to 20 in (25 to 51 cm).
- A 14 in width is made in 12, 16, 18 and 20 in heights. EDB1816 is 18 in wide by 16 in high.
- Included hardware fits canes 1 in (25 mm) wider or narrower. The canes need a rigidizer or crossbar.
Using it day to day
A qualified technician installs it. Check the skin often, and the fasteners every week.
- Wash the cover warm, at or under 60 C (140 F), by hand or on a delicate cycle. Do not bleach, wring or iron it.
- Air dry it, or tumble on low, and refit it only when dry. Wipe spills with mild soap and water.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It mounts on a manual or power chair. The user limit is 300 lb (136 kg).
- An EDB1820 with a PHRK headrest and standard Easy Set was impact-tested.
- If the person stays in the chair, it must meet WC19 or ISO 7176-19, with a tie-down and a lap-and-shoulder belt. A posture belt is not a seat belt.
- A headrest adapter plate is included. The headrest is separate. A custom back cannot be returned. See our return policy.
- The shell is warranted 2 years. The cover, punctures, tears and burns are excluded. See the Warranty tab and our warranty service.
How does it compare?
- The Matrx E2 is a later rigid back with a 3 in (76 mm) contour.

Can this back be the vehicle seat?
Only an EDB1820 sample, with a PHRK headrest and Easy Set, was impact-tested. A vehicle seat is still preferred.
Does the box include a lumbar pad?
Yes. Every Elite back includes a lumbar pad. It sits behind the foam when you want that extra shape.

Warranty details
Motion Concepts, maker of Invacare Matrx seating, warrants the Matrx Elite Deep back to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for two years of use by the original purchaser.
- The back: 2 years. Matrx accessories: 3 months.
- Covers the original purchaser only.
- Excludes punctures, tears and burns, the removable cover, normal wear, and damage from negligence, accident, improper use or storage, unauthorized parts or modification, or repairs by anyone other than a Motion Concepts dealer.
- Defective parts are repaired or replaced at Motion Concepts' option. Labour and shipping are not included, and a repair does not extend the warranty.
- Claims go through the dealer that sold the back.
