Description
The JAY pelvic positioning belt from Sunrise Medical holds the hips in place in a wheelchair, in three styles: 2-Point, 4-Point and V-Contour, in 1, 1.5 or 2 in webbing.
What does it do, and how does it work?
- The 2-Point anchors at two points over a small area, for slight forward or sideways drift.
- The 4-Point anchors at four points for more security in involved positioning.
- The V-Contour uses four points and V-shaped pads each side, spreading support wider.
- Each pull strap ends in a D-ring, so a caregiver can tighten it around a limited grip.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- For someone whose hips slide forward or sideways, or who needs a steady base for a trunk support.
- A 2-Point suits mild drift; a 4-Point or V-Contour suits more involved positioning.
Will it fit?
- Webbing comes 1, 1.5 or 2 in (2.5, 3.8 or 5.1 cm) wide.
- 2-Point pads run 4.5 to 11.5 in (11.4 to 29 cm), 4-Point pads 3.5 to 6.5 in (8.9 to 16.5 cm); the V-Contour comes in small, medium or large.
- Measure seated hip width at the widest point, and from the back of the hips to the back of the knee; a therapist sets the size and anchor points.
Which version should I choose?
- Plain webbing comes only in the 2-Point; the 4-Point and V-Contour are padded.
- The 2-Point and V-Contour take a push button or side release buckle; the 4-Point is push button only.
How does it compare?
- JAY Y-Style anterior trunk support controls the upper body; this belt controls the pelvis.
- Bodypoint Stayflex chest support braces the shoulders and sternum rather than the hips.
- More positioning support lists the rest of the range for a chair.
Frequently asked questions
Can I replace the padding on its own?
Yes. Replacement pads run 5.5 to 11.5 in (14 to 29 cm), one per webbing width.
What is a dual pull belt?
It adds a second pull strap, so either side of the belt can be tightened.
Does a four-point belt need a different chair?
No. It uses four anchor points where the 2-Point uses two. Check the chair has them.
