Code AREXLAL-4888-M is the Arise 1000 EX mattress for a Bari10A frame. The pump may be a separate item.
Who should use this surface?
- Joerns lists stage 1 to 4 pressure injuries, rehabilitation, burns, neurology, dermatology and amputations. That is not a promise about a wound.
- Joerns also lists pain from AIDS, arthritis or oncology. A clinician still chooses the surface.
- It is not a bed frame. The frame's own weight limit still applies.
- With traction or an unstable fracture, keep the physician's angle and guard against deflation.
Will it fit the Bari10A?
- One mattress, not extra codes: 36, 42 or 48 in wide, and 80 or 88 in long, on a Bari10A.
- Depth is 8.5 in (22 cm). Do not use it if a gap remains at a panel or rail. See bed rails.
- The rating is 1000 lb (454 kg). A heavier person, or a lower-rated frame, needs another plan.
- The mattress weighs 28 lb (13 kg). A free home assessment can check the doorway first.
How the surface works, and its limits
- Sixteen cells, in eight pairs, are five inches deep, in head, seat and foot zones.
- Side bolsters deflate when a Bari10A is narrowed. Joerns does not say they stop a fall.
- A 3 in foam base stays supportive if power fails or the pump is unplugged.
- Pump modes are Autofirm, Pulsate and Therapy, with eight levels and low air loss. Pulsate cycles about every 30 seconds.
- Not for outdoors, open flame or flammable anaesthetics. The top pad is not air permeable.
- For CPR, disconnect the hose at the pump, then reattach it to refill.
How it compares

Frequently asked questions
Can the person stay on it while the bed is narrowed for a door?
Yes, on a Bari10A. Let the side bolsters down from the mattress panel before you move the bed through a narrow doorway.
What if the power is out for hours?
The foam base keeps supporting the person with the pump unplugged. If the outage will last, move the person to another surface.
Do the side bolsters stop a fall?
No. They are extra edge support only. Joerns says they do not guarantee that a fall or an entrapment will not happen.
Are special sheets required?
No. Ordinary linen is fine. Keep the therapy pad over the cells, and keep thick extra layers off the pad.
