Description
The Joerns DermaFloat APL mattress, code DFAPL-3680-M, is the mattress only. It is 80 in long and 8 in deep, rated 350 lbs (159 kg), and needs the DermaFloat APL control unit, sold separately.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Twenty cells alternate in adjacent pairs, while integrated low air loss moves moisture away under the therapy pad.
- Three cycle times are available: 5, 10 or 15 minutes, with eight comfort settings.
- Autofirm inflates the surface for a transfer or care task; Therapy holds it steady.
- Fowler Boost adds air at the sacrum when the head of the bed is raised 30 degrees or more.
- The panel locks automatically; an audible power-failure alarm has a reset.
- A CPR valve deflates the surface quickly.
Who is it for?
- Joerns describes the APL for treatment and prevention of pressure ulcers up to stage IV; a clinician decides whether it fits the person.
- It is not recommended for an unstable spinal fracture without a doctor's agreement.
- This code is the mattress only. Order the DFAPL-CU control unit if the bed does not already have one.
Will it fit the bed?
- 80 in long and 8 in deep (203 by 20 cm). We confirm the width before you order.
- 350 lbs (159 kg) is the mattress limit; the bed frame's own safe working load applies if lower.
- Ten straps secure the mattress to the moving part of the frame.
- Check the rail gaps. Health Canada recommends under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) within and under the rail, and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) at the rail ends. See bed rails.
- A used mattress cannot be returned. Measure first and read the return policy.
Power, oxygen and the cover
- Cells stay inflated about 12 hours in a power cut if the control unit remains connected.
- Use oxygen only with a nasal cannula, mask or half-length tent; a full tent past the mattress is a fire risk.
- The therapy pad is low shear and low friction, treated with an antibacterial and antifungal agent, fluid proof and vapour permeable.
- Wipe the cover clean; do not steam clean, and no machine-wash cycle is published.

Do I need the control unit?
Yes. This code is the mattress only; the pump is the separate DFAPL-CU control unit, and the complete system is a third code.

Autofirm inflates the surface for a transfer or care task, then returns after about 12 minutes.
Does the mattress roll up?
Yes. The mattress rolls up for storage and for moving it between rooms.
Can the cover be machine washed?
No. Wipe it clean and do not steam clean.

Warranty details
Joerns Healthcare warrants the DermaFloat APL support surface (mattress and control unit) against defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use. The warranty covers the original purchaser.
- Mattress: 2 years.
- Cover and electromechanical parts (compressors, valves, circuit boards, hoses and couplers): 1 year.
- Joerns supplies replacement parts, or services or replaces a defective product, at its option.
- Excludes burns, improper chemicals, needle punctures, cuts or abrasions, excessive loads, staining, improper maintenance or cleaning, use against the manual, and unauthorized modification or repair.
