DFLAL-CU is the control unit, or pump, for a Joerns DermaFloat LAL mattress. The mattress is sold separately.
Who is it for?
- A home with a DermaFloat LAL mattress that needs a replacement pump.
- Care that wants low air loss with pulsation, not an alternating-pressure cycle.
- People over 500 lbs (227 kg), or a bed with a lower limit: this system is not the one.

What do the three modes do?
- Therapy is steady low air loss. Joerns rates airflow above 100 litres per minute.
- Pulsate raises and lowers cell pressure every 30 seconds.
- Autofirm fills the mattress for a transfer, then returns to the previous mode in about 12 minutes.
- Eight comfort steps, checked under the sacrum by hand.
- The panel locks about five minutes after the last button press.
Will it fit?
- Pair it with a DermaFloat LAL mattress: 36 or 42 in wide, 80 in long, 10 in high.
- The unit is 7.5 x 12.25 x 5.5 in (19 x 31 x 14 cm) and 10 lbs (4.5 kg), and hangs on the foot of the bed.
- It runs on a grounded 120 V AC, 60 Hz outlet and draws 5.1 A. Check the nameplate on the delivered unit.
- It will not drive a foam mattress or a DermaFloat APL surface. See low air loss mattresses for the powered range.
Check the gap at the bed rails: a 10 in surface sits higher than most foam mattresses.
Power cuts and CPR
- After a power cut the pump restarts in Standby, with an audible alarm and a visual light. There is no battery.
- The mattress, not the pump, has a 2 in safety cell that holds air for up to 12 hours.
- For CPR, disconnect the hose marked CPR. Deflation time varies with the person's weight and profile.
- Wipe the housing, hand-wash the reusable filter and do not steam the unit.

Frequently asked questions
Can this pump run a DermaFloat APL mattress?
No. APL is a different Joerns system. DFLAL-CU is for the DermaFloat LAL mattress only.
Does therapy continue if I unplug it to move the bed?
No. The mattress safety cell holds air for up to 12 hours, but therapy needs the pump on.
What comes with the control unit, and can I order it alone?
Joerns supplies the LAL as a control unit and a separate mattress. Tell us your setup and we confirm the carton and price before you order.

Warranty details
Joerns Healthcare warrants the DermaFloat LAL support surface (mattress and control unit) against defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use. The warranty covers the original purchaser.
- Mattress: 2 years.
- Cover and electromechanical parts (compressors, valves, circuit boards, hoses and couplers): 1 year.
- Joerns supplies replacement parts, or services or replaces a defective product, at its option.
- Excludes burns, improper chemicals, needle punctures, cuts or abrasions, excessive loads, staining, improper maintenance or cleaning, use against the manual, and unauthorized modification or repair.
