Description
The Joerns F18AL is the SoftCare half-length assist device set for the EasyCare bed. It gives a short rail on each side of the sleep surface as a handhold.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Gives a handhold when getting in, out or turning in bed.
- The SoftCare surface is the padded soft-touch grip.
- Mounted on the bed's assist device brackets, and checked that it is locked before use.
- Sold as one set, item F18AL, for both sides of the bed.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- For an EasyCare used by someone who needs a handhold at the side of the bed.
- Whether a person should use rails at all is a decision for their care team.
- For another Joerns frame, its own accessory list names a different set.
Will it fit?
- F18AL is the half-length assist device set for the EasyCare.
- Send the bed model and serial and we confirm the frame and that its mounting brackets are fitted.
- Use a properly sized mattress, so the gap between the mattress and the rail is small enough to prevent head or neck entrapment.
Using it day to day
- Locate the mounting brackets where the Joerns instructions place them.
- Check the rail is locked in place before each use.
- With more than one assist device, set the gaps so the trunk and hips pass through easily.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Check the gaps between the rail, mattress, head and foot panels, and recheck them after any adjustment.
- Joerns says mounted assist devices meet IEC 60601-2-52 within normal use on the correct frame.
- Use Joerns parts only; Joerns warns that unapproved replacement parts can cause injury.
How does it compare?
- F14SCAL half-length assist rail pair: the standard half-length set for the same bed family.
- F168AL full-length rail: the longer rail, which needs its own mounting kit.
- Other rails are listed under bed rails.
Frequently asked questions
Is F18AL one rail or a pair?
One set, item F18AL, covers both sides of the bed. It is not sold as a single rail.
Will it fit an UltraCare XT or a WeCare?
The UltraCare XT uses the F17T set and the WeCare uses the F14 or F168 set. Send the model and serial and we check your frame.
Can it be used with any mattress?
No. The mattress must be properly sized so the gap to the rail cannot trap a head or neck, and the gaps must be checked again after any adjustment.
