Description
The Ki Mobility Catalyst 5Vx is a folding ultralight manual wheelchair built to order from 7000 series aluminium tubing, with a 300 lb (136 kg) standard capacity. It is on ADP's product list as an Adult Lightweight Performance Manual Wheelchair (WMA3KI015).
What does it do, and how does it work?
- The frame folds side to side on a cross brace; the rear wheels release without tools.
- 7000 series aluminium frame with 1 in (2.54 cm) top tubing and 1 1/8 in (2.86 cm) bottom tubing.
- The axle plate gives 2 in (5 cm) of centre-of-gravity adjustment in 0.5 in steps; seven rear axle positions set rear seat height.
- Camber adjusts from 0 to 4 degrees in 1 degree steps.
- 24 lbs (10.9 kg) standard; transport 13.9 lbs (6.3 kg) on a 16 by 16 in frame with 5 x 1 casters and T-arm receivers, footrest and rear wheels off.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- An active rider who wants a light folding chair for daily use that still packs into a car.
- A rigid chair: the Rogue 2. Titanium: the Catalyst 5Ti.
- Over 350 lbs (159 kg): bariatric wheelchairs. Needs tilt: tilt-in-space wheelchairs.
Will it fit?
- Seat 14 to 22 in (35.6 to 55.9 cm) wide and 14 to 20 in (35.6 to 50.8 cm) deep.
- Front seat height 13.5 to 21 in, set by the caster; rear 11.5 to 21 in over seven axle positions.
- The reference build is 28.7 in (730 mm) wide; folded, 30.5 x 12.8 x 28 in (775 x 325 x 711 mm).
- Book a free home assessment; your measurements and your therapist's plan set the order.
Using it day to day
- Fold it side to side and release the rear wheels to load it.
- The axle plate sets the centre of gravity, and the rear axle positions set the rear seat height.
- Choose 4 to 8 in casters and 20 to 26 in rear wheels; a fixed 70 or 80 degree front is also available.
- Built to order; options are set with you and timing given.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- 300 lbs (136 kg) standard; 350 lbs (159 kg) heavy duty.
- The 13.9 lb figure is the transport lift; the standard build is 24 lbs (10.9 kg).
- The overall and folded sizes change with the seat width, caster and front end ordered.
- Twist by Klaxon power assist is ordered with the chair, with hardware fitted and settings programmed.
Which version should I choose?
- Swing-away or fixed 70 or 80 degree front; 60 to 90 degree hangers.
- Gloss and matte finishes, colour anodizing and hydrographic patterns; the Colour Accent package paints the forks and axle plate.
How does it compare?
- The Rogue 2 is a rigid chair for a rider who does not need side-to-side folding.
- The Catalyst 5Ti is the titanium folding frame in the same family.
