Leckey Early Activity System for babies 0-36 months

The Leckey Early Activity System is a velcro floor mat with soft rolls, wedges and straps for children from birth to 36 months. A parent or therapist builds a developmental position, then peels the supports off and builds the next one.

What does it do and how does it work?

• Mat: 26.3 x 37.4 in (760 x 950 mm), velcro faced, so every support holds until it is moved.
• Sitting support: 7.4 in (190 mm) high, 11.8 in (300 mm) deep and 7.9 to 9.8 in (200 to 250 mm) wide.
• Rolls and wedge: two small rolls (2.4 x 23.6 in), two medium rolls (3.2 x 27.5 in) and a trunk wedge set at 7.5 degrees.
• Straps: two positioning straps, 3.1 x 26 in (80 x 660 mm).
• Programme: a printed Activity Development Programme sets out each position and what it is for.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It is for a child up to 36 months with mild to complex postural needs, where a therapist has recommended early intervention work on the floor, at home or away.

• A supportive seat: the Leckey Squiggles Seating System is for a child who can sit but needs trunk support.
• An older child: the Spex Wonderseat is a floor sitter for a larger child.
• A stander: standing is a separate piece of equipment; this system works on the floor.

Will it fit?

• Maximum user weight 33 lbs (15 kg); maximum stature 39.4 in (1000 mm).
• Allow about 3 x 4 ft (1 x 1.2 m) of clear floor for the mat and the child.
• Check the sitting support width against the child before ordering; it adjusts from 7.9 to 9.8 in.

Using it day to day

• The programme covers back lying, tummy lying, floor sitting, low and high kneeling, four-point kneeling, reaching and half kneeling.
• Build one position, use it with the child, then move or remove the supports for the next.
• The whole set packs into the supplied duffle bag for use away from home.
• The covers are machine washable and tumble dry safe; the positional supports wipe clean.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

• Never unattended: a child must not be left alone in the system.
• Sleep: do not let an infant sleep in it, because of the SIDS risk.
• Straps and velcro: keep the straps clear of the neck, and keep exposed velcro off the skin; watch for finger pinches at the zips.
• Checks and cleaning: check every component before use, and clean with a moist cloth and a non-abrasive household cleaner; no hoses or power washers.
• Warranty: 3 years on Leckey manufactured products and components.
