Description
The NXT Xtend is a height-adjustable thoracic wheelchair back with a 3.5 in contour, built in two pieces so the upper support moves while the lower section stays at the pelvis.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Height adjustment: the upper shell moves steplessly through 4 in (102 mm), covering 16 to 20 in (406 to 508 mm) of height, set with the person seated.
- Shell: a two-piece aluminium shell with a scapula cut-out and a fixed lower section at the pelvis, with a pelvic cut-out for a natural seated position.
- Contour: 3.5 in (89 mm) thoracic contour; the Deep version adjusts from 5.5 to 7 in.
- Foam and cover: dual-density foam with smartGEL-infused visco, pelvic and lumbar pads, and a washable smartx3D four-way stretch cover.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Thoracic support: for a seating plan that needs a mild thoracic contour with the height set precisely.
- Deeper contour: for a deeper mid-line contour, the Xtend Deep adjusts from 5.5 to 7 in.
- Assessment first: an occupational therapist or physiotherapist sets the width, height and angle.
Will it fit?
- Widths: 16, 18, 20, 22 or 24 in (406 to 610 mm).
- Chair width: each shell covers a 2 in range, from a 16 in back on a 16 to 18 in chair through a 24 in back on a 24 to 26 in chair.
- Capacity: 300 lbs (136 kg) through 20 in wide, and 400 lbs (181 kg) at 22 and 24 in.
- Weight: 4.1 lbs (1.86 kg) on the 16 in shell.
- Back canes: QuickFit fits 0.75 to 1 in (19 to 25 mm) tubing, metric or imperial, without shims.
Using it day to day
- QuickFit hardware: 5 in (127 mm) of depth, 25 degrees of fore/aft angle, and pelvic or trunk rotation; reversible for more depth.
- Wider chairs: the hardware expands to fit a chair up to 2 in wider than the back.
- Head support and laterals: lateral supports, head supports and replacement covers and foam are accessories ordered separately.
- Care: remove the foam before washing the cover, wipe for light cleaning, and follow the cover's laundering instructions.
- Warranty: 24 months on the back and 90 days on the cover, from delivery to the original purchaser.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Included: the shell, dual-density foam with smartGEL visco, pads, smartx3D cover and QuickFit.
- Covers: incontinent and infection-control inner and outer covers are available separately.
- Quote build: the width, cover and accessories are settled on the quote; custom and specially ordered backs are non-returnable, so read the return policy.

NXT Seating gives the NXT Xtend back support a limited warranty of 24 months from the date of delivery to the original purchaser.
- Back support: 24 months. A defective component is repaired or replaced at the maker's discretion.
- Cover: 90 days.
- Excludes daily wear and tear, mishandling, misuse, neglect and not following the care instructions.
- Excludes cigarette burns, tears from sharp objects and cover damage from not following the washing instructions.
- Claims and repairs go through the nearest authorized dealer; a copy of the purchase invoice may be required.
