Description
The Orthex Sophia 3 is a hi-low adjustable bed for the home. The deck rises to 30 in (762 mm) and lowers to a low position for easier transfers, with a wireless remote and a lithium backup.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Raises the head to 68 degrees, the foot to 9 in (229 mm) and the lumbar support to 4 in (102 mm).
- Adds vibro-massage and a wireless remote that is backlit and carries a flashlight.
- Lifts and lowers the whole deck on legs, with 8 in (203 mm) of clearance underneath.
- Runs on 4 motors in Twin XL and 5 in Double and Queen.
- A lithium battery backup keeps the base working in a power cut.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- For a home where the person wants the head and feet raised and the whole deck at a chosen height.
- For someone who transfers more easily when the deck is lifted or lowered first.
- For Trendelenburg or a rolling frame choose the Sophia 4; this base stands on legs and does not tilt head-down.
Will it fit?
- Twin XL is 38 x 80 in (965 x 2032 mm) and takes 750 lb (340 kg).
- Double is 54 x 74 in (1372 x 1880 mm) and Queen is 60 x 80 in (1524 x 2032 mm), each at 850 lb (386 kg).
- The low position is 13, 15 or 17 in (330, 381 or 432 mm) depending on the size; the top is 30 in (762 mm).
- The base does not roll, so measure the room and the route in. A free home assessment checks the space.
Using it day to day
- Use the remote for head, foot, lumbar and the deck height, and for the massage.
- Choose a mattress that flexes with the deck; the mattress is not included.
- In a power cut the lithium backup keeps the base adjustable.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- No Trendelenburg and no casters; this is a home adjustable base.
- Rails are separate: fixed 16.5 x 20 in (42 x 51 cm), short retractable 28 x 22 in (71 x 56 cm) or long retractable 58 x 22 in (147 x 56 cm).
- The headboard and footboard kit is separate; boards are 4 in (10 cm) thick.
- The structure is covered for life and the electrical parts for 3 years.
How does it compare?
- Sophia 2: the same home setting without the hi-low deck.
- Sophia 4: adds Trendelenburg and casters.
- Homecare beds: other frames for a home.
