Description
The Orthex Sophia 4 is a Class I homecare bed with a powered hi-lo deck. It comes in Twin XL, Double, and Queen.
What does it do and how does it work?
The deck moves from about 12 to 30 in (305 to 762 mm). The head goes to 68 degrees. The foot rises 9 in (229 mm).
Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg each go to 16 degrees. Twin XL uses 5 motors. Double and Queen use 7. The base includes a wireless remote, vibro-massage, and a lithium battery backup.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
Choose Sophia 4 when care at home needs a deck that rises and tilts. A facility frame such as the PrimeCare P703 is a different bed. See homecare beds.
The Sophia 2 does not raise and lower. Another home frame is the Harmony Lite.
Will it fit?
Name the size, Twin XL, Double, or Queen, and we match that base before you order.
Twin XL is 38 by 80 in (97 by 203 cm), and Double is 54 by 74 in (137 by 188 cm). Queen is 60 by 80 in (152 by 203 cm).
Clearance under the frame is 6 in (152 mm), on lockable wheels. See patient lifts. Capacity is 800 lb (362.9 kg) on Twin XL and 900 lb (408.2 kg) on Double and Queen.
Using it day to day
Set the height, head, foot, and tilt from the wireless remote. The remote is backlit, a light sits under the bed, and the covering is waterproof.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
Rails, a headboard, and a footboard are optional and follow the size you pick. Use a foam mattress in that same size. See the mattress size guide.
The frame has a lifetime warranty. Electrical parts are covered for 3 years from the purchase date. Health Canada explains hospital bed safety. Rails are a choice, not a promise someone will stay in bed. See bed rails.
Which version should I choose?
Pick Twin XL at 800 lb (362.9 kg), or Double and Queen at 900 lb (408.2 kg). Match the rails and boards to that size.
How does it compare?
Sophia 2 stays at one height. This bed lifts 18 in (457 mm) and tilts to 16 degrees.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Sophia 4 include a mattress?
No. The base includes the remote, vibro-massage, lithium backup, and lockable wheels. The mattress, rails, and boards are separate.
What happens to the bed in a power failure?
The base includes a lithium battery backup, so the deck can still be adjusted.
Can I mix a Queen base with a Twin XL mattress?
No. Keep the mattress, rails, and boards in the same size: Twin XL, Double, or Queen.
