Description
The Sophia 2 from Orthex Canada is an adjustable comfort bed, not a hospital bed, in our homecare beds.
Who is it for?
- Someone who wants the head, feet and lumbar section to move in a furniture-style bed.
- A caregiver reaching across: Orthex calls Twin XL the more accessible size.
- Not if the deck must rise and fall.
- Capacity is 750 lbs (340 kg) on Twin XL and 850 lbs (386 kg) on Queen, including the mattress.
Will it fit the room?
- The Twin XL deck is 38 x 80 in (97 x 203 cm).
- The Queen deck is 60 x 80 in (152 x 203 cm). The size option is labelled 59 in wide, so we confirm the Queen width before you order.
- Orthex also builds Double 54 x 74 in and Split King 76 x 80 in (two Twin XL).
Which mattress and rails work with it?
- Use memory foam, latex or a flexible hybrid in the matching size. A stiff innerspring is a poor match, and no box spring is used.
- Rails are optional and not in the bed.
- Rail sizes are fixed 16.5 x 20 in, short 28 x 22 in, and long 58 x 22 in.
- A care team decides whether rails are used.
- Check mattress fit before using rails. See Health Canada's hospital bed safety page.
Compare
- Harmony Hi-Low: the whole deck rises and falls. The Sophia 2 stays at one height.
- Harmony Lite: a simpler folding comfort bed.
- Resten Select: another comfort bed that stays at one height, with its own sizes.
Frequently asked questions
Does the lithium pack run every function?
A lithium battery is included for essential functions during an outage.
Can I roll it to another room?
No. It has no casters, so it does not roll, though many frames can hold it if you measure the inside.
What does not come with the base?
The mattress, side rails and headboard kit are separate. A care team decides whether the optional rails are used.
Is this the Sophia 4?
No. This is the Sophia 2. Sophia 3 and Sophia 4 are different bases.
Funding and warranty
Funding may help: see who may help pay.
Orthex gives 3 years on electrical parts and a lifetime on the frame. If Orthex approves a defect, the base is repaired at no charge or replaced with the same model or an equivalent (see warranty).
