The Permobil Align mattress, code ALIGN, is a non-powered foam replacement made in Canada. A low-friction layer between the foam sections absorbs shear. It has no pump.
What does it do and how does it work?
Shear Reduction Technology lets the foam layers shift in any direction, then the fixed head and foot sections settle back into place.
The torso is one piece of HR foam, with 4 in (10 cm) square cuts under the sacrum and 2 in (5 cm) square cuts under the heels. The middle sits higher so the torso can sink a little while the side bolsters stay firmer for transfers.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
Choose it for a home or facility bed that needs a foam replacement, not a powered surface. Someone who needs fluid immersion should look at the Dolphin FIS mattress. A thin topper, such as the Blake gel overlay, sits on a mattress you already have. This one replaces the mattress.
Will it fit?
The 36 x 80 x 7 in size (91 x 203 x 18 cm) is rated 350 lbs (159 kg). Listed widths are also 39, 42, 48, 54 and 60 in at 80 in long, and 36, 39 and 42 in at 84 in (213 cm) long, all 7 in high.
Regular Align runs from 350 to 500 lbs (159 to 227 kg) by size. Custom sizes are offered. If the deck is not 36 by 80 in, or you need the raised-bolster build, we confirm those details before you order.
Take the old mattress off the bed. The extra height changes the rail gaps. On an adult hospital bed, the openings Health Canada names should stay under 120 mm (4 3/4 in): inside the rail, below the rail, and between the rail and the mattress. See bed rails.
Using it day to day
No pump means a power cut does not change the foam. The cover is a full enclosure with a Recovery 5 top. Use the accordion-cut side bolsters as the transfer edge. Set the head section at the head of the bed so the zones stay in order.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
A raised-bolster option adds 3 in (8 cm) at the head and foot edges and leaves the middle lower for getting out. That option is a separate build. An R5 Ultra cover is a separate upgrade.

Frequently asked questions
Does code ALIGN include ROHO air cells?
No. This is the foam Align mattress. Air inserts are not part of the foam build described for it.
Is an R5 Ultra cover in the box?
No. The standard cover is a Recovery 5 top. R5 Ultra is a separate upgrade.
What happens to it in a power failure?
Nothing changes. There is no pump, so the foam stays as it is when the power goes out.
What does the raised bolster change?
It adds 3 in (8 cm) to the head and foot bolsters and leaves the middle lower for getting out of bed.
