Description
PCOPT is the powered Pro-Care Optima supplied through Permobil Canada's surface program. Permobil also makes a different non-powered foam product called Optima, which is not this mattress.
Who should consider it?
- A nurse, doctor or therapist should assess that risk, select the surface and set a monitoring plan.
- Its 550 lb maximum must also be checked against the bed frame's safe working load.
How does it work?
It has a static head zone, torso and lower-leg zones, and six cell-in-cell sections near the sacrum for support when sitting up.
A heel control can deflate selected lower-leg cells.
The default program begins with a 10-minute alternating cycle.
What should you measure before ordering?
- The package is called 36-inch; the maker's drawing is about 79 inches long, so measure the delivered surface.
- Measure the delivered surface and sleep deck before use.
- Health Canada advises checking compressed therapeutic air surfaces with the frame and rails.

What happens if power or pressure is lost?
- The battery is an optional configuration, with more than six hours of dynamic operation when one is fitted.
- Confirm the actual PCOPT pump and battery before planning transport or outage care, and keep a clinical power-failure plan even if a battery is supplied.
What should you compare?
- The Serene Air is another powered alternating surface with distinct widths and control modes.
- The Atlas Hybrid starts non-powered and has a much lower base width capacity.

What happens when the bed head rises?
Auto Seat Inflation starts when the head section rises at least 30 degrees. Six cell-in-cell sections support the sacral area while sitting up.
Is PCOPT a foam Optima mattress?
No. PCOPT is Apex Medical's powered Pro-Care Optima air surface distributed in Canada through 5 Minds Mobility and Permobil. Permobil's other Optima page describes a reversible foam mattress.
Does PCOPT include a battery?
The battery is optional. Do not assume this Canadian package includes it until the pump label and order configuration are checked.
