Description

ProBasics anodized aluminum underarm crutches come in three sizes: junior CRJ, adult CRA and tall CRAT, each rated 350 lb (159 kg).

What does it do and how does it work?

Weight goes through a one-piece aluminum centre tube. The arm pad sits at the top and the handgrip sits below it.

  • Height moves in 1 in (2.5 cm) steps with a push button.
  • The handgrip moves on wing nuts, separate from the height.
  • Underarm pads and handgrips are extra-thick.
  • Tips are non-skid rubber, on an anodized aluminum frame.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • Choose them when height falls in one range below and weight is at or under 350 lb (159 kg).
  • Choose something else over 350 lb (159 kg), or when a seat is needed while walking.
  • A walker suits someone who should not put full weight through the arms.

Will it fit?

The three codes cover 4 ft 6 in to 6 ft 6 in.

  • Junior CRJ: 4 ft 6 in to 5 ft 2 in (137 to 157 cm). Arm pad to floor 37 to 46 in (94 to 117 cm). Handgrip 9 to 13 in (23 to 33 cm) below the arm pad. Weight 3.3 lb (1.5 kg).
  • Adult CRA: 5 ft 2 in to 5 ft 10 in (157 to 178 cm). Arm pad to floor 45 to 53 in (114 to 135 cm). Handgrip 15 to 19 in (38 to 48 cm). Weight 3.6 lb (1.6 kg).
  • Tall CRAT: 5 ft 10 in to 6 ft 6 in (178 to 198 cm). Arm pad to floor 53 to 61.5 in (135 to 156 cm). Handgrip 16 to 20 in (41 to 51 cm). Weight 3.8 lb (1.7 kg).

Using it day to day

Set height with the push button. Set the handgrip with the wing nuts. Match both crutches on height and on handgrip spacing.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • Capacity is 350 lb (159 kg) on CRJ, CRA and CRAT.
  • These are underarm crutches. A forearm crutch uses a cuff, not an arm pad.
  • Each code is packed 8 per case. Pads, grips and tips come on the crutch.
  • Limited lifetime on the frame. 90 days on parts. See warranty.

Which version should I choose?

  • At 5 ft 2 in, CRJ and CRA both apply. CRJ arm pad stops at 46 in. CRA starts at 45 in.
  • At 5 ft 10 in, CRA stops at a 53 in arm pad and CRAT starts at 53 in.

How does it compare?

See walking aids for other options.
