Description

The Quickie QRi is a rigid ultralight manual wheelchair on an open aluminium frame, built to order by Sunrise Medical.

What does it do and how does it work?

The open frame leaves the space under the seat clear, so the push stroke runs from the handrim to the caster without a cross brace.

  • The 22 lb (10 kg) build carries 265 lb (120 kg).
  • The axle plate moves the rear wheels 0.5 to 3 in (1.3 to 7.6 cm) fore and aft.
  • Frame angles are 75, 80 or 85 degrees, with a 0 in or 1 in (2.54 cm) inset.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a self-propelling rider who wants a light rigid chair for daily use and vehicle travel.

  • Choose a folding chair if the frame must collapse side to side.
  • Choose a bariatric chair if the rider is over 265 lb (120 kg).

Will it fit?

We confirm the seat width, depth and height before you order.

  • Seat width and depth each run 12 to 20 in (30.5 to 50.8 cm).
  • Front seat height is 15 to 20 in (38.1 to 50.8 cm); rear seat height is 14 to 20 in (35.6 to 50.8 cm).
  • Measure the seated hip width, and the back of the hips to the back of the knee.

Using it day to day

The back folds down and both rear wheels come off on quick-release axles.

  • Pneumatic tyres take 65 psi (448 kPa) at 22 and 26 in, 75 psi (517 kPa) at 24 in.
  • Schwalbe Marathon tyres take 85 to 145 psi (586 to 1000 kPa).
  • Armrests can be swing-away, single-post height adjustable, or left off.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • With the transit option, the QRi conforms to WC-19 up to 265 lb (120 kg); without it, transfer to a vehicle seat.
  • Keep the chair straight on a slope: under 10 degrees up or down, under 6 degrees across.
  • The Quickie R90 power assist fits, and JAY cushions and backs are ordered with the chair.
  • Options count toward the 265 lb (120 kg) capacity.

Which version should I choose?

Frame angle, inset, camber (0 or 3 degrees) and back are chosen when you order.

  • The back is folding lock-down or fixed; armrests are swing-away, single-post adjustable or none.
  • Wheels come in mag, spoke or Spinergy, with pneumatic, airless insert, full poly or Schwalbe Marathon tyres.
  • Twelve standard frame colours are available; patterns go through Quickie's Built-4-Me team.

How does it compare?

The Quickie 5R is another aluminium rigid chair at 21.5 lb (9.8 kg). The Nitrum has a transport weight under 11 lb (5 kg) and a 275 lb (125 kg) limit. See rigid wheelchairs.

Frequently asked questions

What if my seat measurement falls outside 12 to 20 in?

Quickie's Built-4-Me team modifies the frame beyond the standard sizes. We send the measurement with the order.

Can the centre of gravity change after delivery?

Yes. The axle plate has 0.5 to 3 in (1.3 to 7.6 cm) of adjustment, and our technicians can move it.

Can I get replacement parts later?

Replacement parts are available from Quickie, and our technicians service what we sell.
