Description
The RGK Octane FX (model FXT) is a made-to-measure rigid daily wheelchair in grade 9 titanium, with a Q-Lock fold at the front.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Grade 9 titanium frame with a Q-Lock front tube that folds under the chair, and a backrest that folds down.
- Twistlock collars must be locked in use; check the Q-Lock joint has no free play.
- Seat width and depth 250 to 460 mm (about 9.8 to 18.1 in) in 5 mm steps.
- Front seat height 480 to 550 mm (about 18.9 to 21.7 in); rear seat height 360 to 550 mm (about 14.2 to 21.7 in).
- Back height 203 to 431 mm (about 8.0 to 17.0 in); back angle 10 degrees forward and 10 degrees back from 90.
- Centre of gravity adjusts 0 to 178 mm; camber 0 to 5 degrees; the frame angle is set to the rider.
- Under 5.5 kg (12 lb) without wheels and cushion, on a 400 mm rear seat width.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- A rider who wants a made-to-measure chair that stays rigid and folds for a car or trip.
- It is not a cross-brace chair. The RGK HiLite is another made-to-measure rigid daily chair without this front fold.
- It is not the Octane Sub4; they are separate chairs.
Will it fit?
- Seat and back measurements are chosen from the ranges on the order, so a therapist or our free home assessment measures before the chair is built.
- Sunrise lists transit as no: a tied-down chair is not a vehicle seat.
Using it day to day
- To fold the front, remove the rear wheels, rotate the twistlock collars open and press both Q-Lock levers down; the front tube folds under the chair.
- To set it up, pull the front section forward until the levers click, then rotate the collars into the locked position.
- To fold the back, rotate its twistlock open, press the catch and push the backrest down; pull it up to engage and lock it.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Never exceed 242 lb (110 kg), or 187 lb (85 kg) with a handbike.
- Do not use it on slopes steeper than 6 degrees.
- Wheel locks hold the chair still, not slow it.
- Warranty: 12 months on parts, 5 years on the frame and cross-braces. See the Warranty tab.
Which version should I choose?
- Cerakote colour, chosen from the RGK palette.
- Camber 0 to 5 degrees, centre of gravity 0 to 178 mm, and the footrest set to the rider on the order.
- Fold-flat sideguards and an Airtech tension-adjustable backrest.
How does it compare?
- RGK HiLite: a made-to-measure rigid chair without the front fold.
- Ki Ethos: another brand's rigid chair.
- Rigid wheelchairs: the full range.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Octane FX the same as the Octane Sub4?
No. The Octane FX is its own chair with the Q-Lock front fold.
Does the frame fold like a cross-brace chair?
No. The Q-Lock folds the front tube under the chair, and the backrest folds down.
Will it fit an overhead locker?
The folded chair fits most overhead lockers and compact car trunks, not every airline bin.
