Description

Savaria's Stretcher Sling, item M921540, is a full-body mesh sling for moving a person who stays lying flat.

What does it do and how does it work?

It supports the body from head to legs during the transfer.

  • Removable boards add support, and the stretcher shape keeps the body in line.
  • Six adjustable tapes and an elasticated hinge set the position.
  • A soft neck roll and a waist support are included and removable.
  • The open-weave polyester mesh lets air through and drains moisture.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a person who cannot sit for a transfer and needs to stay lying flat.

Will it fit?

Four sizes cover user heights from 39.5 in (100 cm) to 85 in (216 cm).

  • S fits 39.5-47.25 in (100-120 cm); M fits 47.25-63 in (120-160 cm); L fits 63-74.75 in (160-190 cm); XL fits 74.75-85 in (190-216 cm).
  • The lift needs a loop-type spreader bar, and clips will not fit one.
  • A risk assessment sets the size; too large a sling can let the person slip through.

Using it day to day

Fitting needs a carer on each side of the bed.

  • Put the flat slide sheets under the person, bring the sling to the bed and line the waist up with the join.
  • Feed the straps from the feet up and pull them through from the other side.
  • Pull evenly so the sling eases under, remove the top sheet, fit the chest strap and attach the loops.
  • Lower it after it takes the weight to adjust comfort, then transfer.
  • Wash at 203 F (95 C) or less, dry low at 50 C (122 F) or less, do not iron; check straps, mesh and label before each use.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

The sling holds 600 lb (272 kg), and the lift's own rating still applies.

  • Use loop straps only on a loop-type spreader bar, never on a stud bar.
  • Never lift from a lying position without head support; the neck roll provides it.
  • Remove the boards before washing, and take a sling with frayed straps or a torn mesh out of service.

How does it compare?

Frequently asked questions

Do the support boards stay in during a transfer?

Yes. The boards add support and stay in place; release the fastenings to take them out for washing.

Can I use it on a ceiling lift?

Yes, if the ceiling lift has a loop-type spreader bar. A stud bar will not take the loop straps.

Does the neck roll have to be used?

No. It is removable and is fitted only when extra head comfort is needed.
