Handicare Supreme leg support sling, item B-LEG

The Handicare Supreme leg support sling, item B-LEG, is a single-leg sling for hygiene, wound care and transfers with a loop-style hoist.

What does it do and how does it work?

It holds one leg while the caregiver works on the other, or supports the leg during a transfer.

• The sling is 44 x 8.25 in (112 x 21 cm), one size.
• The Silva-Spacer fabric with COOLMAX and COOLMAX freshFX EcoMade manages moisture and stays breathable.
• Two straps attach to a 2-point loop-style carry bar.
• It adds support for hygiene and wound treatment and reduces resident and caregiver handling.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a person who needs one leg held steady during care or a transfer.

• It is an addition to a full-body sling, not a replacement.
• For an abdominal support, choose the pannus support sling B-PAN.
• For arm support, choose the arm support sling B-ARM.

Will it fit?

• The pad is 44 in (112 cm) long and 8.25 in (21 cm) wide.
• One size, item B-LEG; the maker lists no other sizes.
• The bar must be a loop-style bar with two attachment points; a standard coat hanger spreader bar also works.
• A lift and bar are not included.

Using it day to day

Slide the sling under the area to support, keeping the strap away from the skin, and centre it.

• Attach both straps to the carry bar.
• Raise a few inches off the bed to check position and comfort, then support the leg at the needed level.
• If it needs adjusting, lower the limb back to the bed first.
• Check the straps and material before each use; remove a frayed or damaged sling from use.
• Wash at up to 203 F (95 C) with non-biological detergent, tumble dry low at 50 C maximum, and do not iron.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

Use it only with a suitable loop lift, and never transfer until both straps are secured.

• It supports one leg; moving the whole person needs a full-body sling.
• Close the hook-and-loop fastenings before washing and when the sling is stored.
• Do not exceed the load rating of the lift.
