Description

The Handicare FootStool is a closed-cell plastic step that raises the feet and knees for a seated transfer. It comes in two heights: 8090 at 10 cm (4 in) and 8095 at 5 cm (2 in).

What does it do and how does it work?

  • Raising the knees lifts the thighs slightly, which reduces friction in a seated bed-to-wheelchair transfer.
  • It also supports the feet at the toilet or when repositioning someone further back in a chair.
  • The front edge is recessed for the caregiver's foot, and the back has a smaller recess for a toilet.
  • The closed-cell polyethylene does not slide easily, and the load rating is 440 lbs (200 kg).

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • For a caregiver moving a seated person between a bed and a wheelchair, or helping at the toilet.
  • For a person whose feet need support to keep the knees raised during the move.
  • Choose a sliding board if the transfer needs the person to slide across a surface.

Will it fit?

  • Both heights are 320 mm (12.6 in) long and 380 mm (15 in) wide.
  • 8090 is 100 mm (10 cm / 4 in) high; 8095 is 50 mm (5 cm / 2 in) high.
  • Check the height the person's feet need and the space beside the bed, chair or toilet.

Using it day to day

  • Place it under the person's feet while they sit on the toilet or in the wheelchair.
  • Clean with warm water or soap; for disinfection use 70% ethanol or 45% isopropanol.
  • Do not drop it or put hard pressure on it, because the material can dent.
  • Expected life is up to 10 years of normal use.

How does it compare?

The EasyGlide transfer board is the sliding board often used with the stool. The EasyBelt gives the caregiver a handhold during the same seated transfer. See patient lifts if the person needs a lift.

Frequently asked questions

Which height should I choose?

8090 raises the feet 10 cm and 8095 raises them 5 cm. The care assessment decides which height suits the transfer.

Will it slide on a tiled floor?

The closed-cell polyethylene does not slide easily on the floor. Check the floor in the room where it will be used.

Do I need to order a cover separately?

Only if you want one. The stool ships without a cover, and a FootStoolCover is a separate item.
