Description
The Drive 15021BV is a pair of T-style half rails in a brown-vein finish, made of 1 in (25 mm) steel, for a Drive pan-style or bariatric homecare bed.
What does it do and how does it work?
The pair gives a handhold and an edge along part of the mattress, one rail on each side of the bed.
- Half length: each rail runs along part of the sleep surface, not the whole mattress.
- Drive lists the pair for Pan-Style beds and bariatric beds 15300, 15302 and 15303.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- It suits a Drive pan-style or bariatric homecare bed when the care team has decided rails are appropriate.
- Choose the 15001ABV full-length rail when the handhold should run the full length of the mattress.
- Choose the 15021BV-LW rail for a lightweight bariatric bed 15300LW, 15302LW or 15303LW.
Will it fit?
Match the rail to the bed. Send the model and serial from the frame label and we confirm 15021BV against it.
- Drive lists it for Pan-Style beds, the bariatric beds 15300, 15302 and 15303, and most manufacturers' beds.
- Health Canada advises checking that the mattress is the right size and type for the bed frame before rails are used. See Health Canada's hospital bed safety page.
Using it day to day
Fit the rails to the bed and check that the latches are fastened before you leave the person.
- Check the rails often, and keep the mattress matched to the frame.
- On bariatric beds 15300, 15302 and 15303, fit the two brown side-adjustment clamps that come with 15021BV. Do not use the chrome clamps from a half-rail kit.
- Whether a person should use rails at all is a decision for their care team.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
The rails work on the beds Drive lists. The bed and mattress are separate.
- Drive publishes no rail height or weight capacity. The bed's safe working load includes the rails and other accessories.
- Health Canada says rail risk is greater for people who are frail, confused, restless or unable to control their body movements.
How does it compare?
- 15001ABV: a full-length rail pair, for a handhold along the whole mattress.
- 15021BV-LW: the lightweight bariatric code, for the LW beds only.
- Half-length bed rails: the other half rails we stock.
