Description
The Eclipse Bigfoot S846 is a full-size, four-wheel mobility scooter from Eclipse Medical's Trailmaster series. It carries one rider up to 400 lbs (182 kg), has a 2.3 hp (1.7 kW) motor and runs on two 75 Ah batteries.
What does it do and how does it work?
- A 2.3 hp (1.7 kW) motor gives a top speed of up to 15 km/h (9.5 mph).
- Two 75 Ah batteries give up to 50 km (32 mi) per charge, and the 6 A charger is included.
- Front and rear suspension and 12 in (305 mm) tires front and rear soften sidewalk seams.
- The tiller has a digital LCD dashboard, and the light package adds headlights, tail lights and turn signals.
- It climbs up to 10 degrees (16%) and comes with two mirrors.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- A rider up to 400 lbs (182 kg) who wants a stable four-wheeler for long trips on pavement and paths.
- Choose a travel scooter if it must go into a car boot, because this one does not fold and weighs 286 lbs (130 kg) with batteries.
- Choose a power wheelchair if you need postural support or pressure relief; ask your therapist.
- Choose a narrower scooter if tight hallways or small rooms are part of your day.
Will it fit?
- Overall size is 56 x 26 x 49 in (142 x 66 x 124 cm), and at 26 in (66 cm) wide it needs doorway clearance on each side.
- The 63 in (161 cm) turning radius sets the clear space needed to turn it around.
- At 286 lbs (130 kg) with batteries it needs a ramp or lift rated for that weight.
- Sit on the seat before you rely on it for a transfer; call us and we will measure the unit.
Using it day to day
- Charge the batteries after every use, and once a week when the scooter sits unused.
- Recycle a worn pair at a municipal battery depot or through our battery service.
- Moving it without riding takes a ramp, a lift or a second person.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- The 400 lbs (182 kg) limit covers the rider and anything carried.
- It is built for pavement and paths; stairs, soft ground and slopes over 10 degrees (16%) are beyond it.
- It accepts a rear tote, a walker holder, a cane holder and an oxygen holder.
- The 75 Ah batteries are not in the price shown; we confirm that pair is added before you order.
How does it compare?
- The Eclipse Interceptor S940 GTX is the other Eclipse four-wheeler, with a 450 lbs (204 kg) limit and a heavier 363 lbs (165 kg) build.
- The Pride Pursuit 2 carries the same 400 lbs (181 kg) and weighs less, but it does not fold either.
- The Invacare Comet Pro 4 has a lower 350 lbs (160 kg) limit.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I ride it in Ontario?
Ontario treats a medical scooter as a pedestrian, so it belongs on sidewalks and paths rather than the road. Check your municipality's bylaw for local rules.
Is the three-wheel Bigfoot a different scooter?
Yes. The Bigfoot S836 is the three-wheel model in the same Trailmaster line; the S846 is four-wheel only.
Can two people ride it?
No. The seat carries one rider, and the 400 lbs (182 kg) capacity covers that rider and anything carried.
