The Handicare FGA-700, item 280401, is an aluminum bariatric floor lift with Handicare QRS, rated 700 lb (318 kg).
What does it do and how does it work?
The mast and the legs both move from the hand control.
- A 4-point bar locks onto a quick-release hook and turns 360 degrees.
- Gait bars rotate out of the way during a transfer.
- Three mast holes set the boom: middle is usual, lower adds height, upper lowers it.
- Lifting height is 25.2 in (640 mm) to 76.4 in (1,940 mm). The battery is 24 V, 2.9 Ah.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It transfers someone up to 700 lb (318 kg) from a bed, chair, or the floor.
- Choose the low-base FGA-700 if the bed will not clear 6.1 in (155 mm).
- Trained staff only, and only a few metres inside one room.
- A short need can start with a patient lift rental.
Will it fit?
Measure the doorway and the gap under the bed.
- Length is 59 in (1,500 mm). Outer width is 30.1 in (765 mm) closed and 46.8 in (1,190 mm) open.
- Inside the legs is 25.2 in (640 mm) closed and 41.9 in (1,065 mm) open.
- The legs are 6.1 in (155 mm) at the top and 3.3 in (85 mm) underneath. Rear casters lock.
Using it day to day
Charge for 4 to 5 hours before the first lift. Unplug before anyone is in the sling.
- Lock the rear casters, spread the legs, seat the straps, then raise a little and check the clips.
- If power fails, turn the manual handle clockwise. A technician must reset the lift before the next use.
- Duty is 10% use and 90% rest, rated 30 lifts at 700 lb or 60 at 350 lb.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
Use Handicare slings. We confirm the carry bar before you order.
- Keep it out of water and away from flammable anaesthetics.
- Check the hand control every use. A technician inspects it every 6 months and load-tests it every 12 months.
- The emergency stop cuts power. Twist it to release. It can charge with the stop pressed.
Which version should I choose?
Item 280401 is the standard base with Handicare QRS in the model name.
- The FGA-700 280400 is the same base without that name.
- The low-base FGA-700 is 4.1 in (105 mm) at the top of the legs. Item 280403 is the low-base QRS model.
How does it compare?

Frequently asked questions
Can I charge the battery during a transfer?
No. Unplug first. The lift will not raise while the cord is in.
What if the hand control fails mid-lift?
Use the buttons on the control box. With no power, use the manual handle, then wait for a technician reset.
Is a sling packed in the carton?
No. Order the sling separately. The bar, hand control, charger, and tools are in the box.
How long is the cover?
Cover is 1 year after installation, and it ends 18 months after manufacture if that date comes first. Battery cover is 90 days.
