The Handicare FGA-700 280400 is the standard-base bariatric floor lift, up to 700 lb (318 kg).
What does it do and how does it work?
- Aluminum frame, 161 lb (73 kg). The hand control raises the boom and spreads the legs, one motion at a time.
- The four-point bar uses spring clips for the sling straps, turns 360 degrees, and lifts from the floor. Support bars swing aside for gait practice.
- The emergency stop cuts power. Turn it the way the arrows show to release. The battery still charges with the stop pressed.
- If the hand control fails, buttons on the control box raise, lower, and move the legs. A clockwise handle lowers the boom when the power is out. A technician then resets the lift before the next transfer.
- 24 V sealed lead-acid battery, 2.9 Ah. The charger is on the lift, 100-240 V in. Charge 4 to 5 hours before the first lift. Do not lift while it is plugged in. 30 lifts at 700 lb, or 60 at 350 lb (159 kg). Use it 10 percent of the time, then rest. An alarm stops the lift if the load is too high.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Someone up to 700 lb (318 kg) who needs a full lift from a bed, a chair or the floor.
- Over 700 lb (318 kg), choose another lift. A lower bed needs the low-base FGA-700. The QRS bar on this base is 280401.
Will it fit?
- Closed outside width 30.1 in (765 mm). Open outside 46.8 in (1,190 mm), inside 41.9 in (1,065 mm). Length 59 in (1,500 mm). Turning radius 62.8 in (1,595 mm).
- Legs 6.1 in (155 mm) to the top, 3.3 in (85 mm) off the floor. Front casters 4.0 in (101 mm). Rear casters 5.0 in (127 mm) with brakes. Close the legs for a doorway.
- Three mast positions, 2 in (50 mm) apart. The middle hole is usual. Lowest mast setting: 21.3-72.5 in. Highest figures: 25.2-76.4 in (64-194 cm). Reach 17.8-18.9 in (453-480 mm), out to 27.2 in (691 mm).
Using it day to day
- Charge 4 to 5 hours before the first lift, and leave it on charge when idle. Lock the rear casters before you lift.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Sling straps go in the spring clips. See patient lift slings. A sling is included only when ordered with the lift.
- Move only a few metres in the same room. Keep it out of water.
- More heavy-duty patient lifts. A short need can start with a patient lift rental.
How does it compare?
- The low-base FGA-700 has 4.1 in (105 mm) legs for a lower bed, at the same 700 lb.
- The Drive bariatric patient lift is another powered floor lift in this weight class.

Cover is the shorter of 1 year after the lift is installed and 18 months after it was made. The battery period is 90 days.
