Description
The Jay Backpack Style anterior trunk support (dynamic ATS9601 and ATS9603, structured ATS9701 and ATS9703) is for someone whose trunk folds forward and whose shoulders roll in.
What does it do and how does it work?
Long pads run over the shoulders and control forward flexion, with a closer shoulder retraction for upper torso control.
- Dynamic ATS9601 is the 12 in (30.5 cm) pad. ATS9603 is the 18 in (45.7 cm) pad. These give with high tone or involuntary movement.
- Structured ATS9701 and ATS9703 use those same lengths and hold a set shoulder position.
- The chart publishes pad length only. There is no second width figure for this shape.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It is for upper torso control when the shoulders need to sit back, not for a broad panel across the whole chest.
- Choose the classic panel when you want one continuous chest pad.
- Choose the centre-opening buckle when transfers need the chest to open in the middle.
- Choose the padded strap when a short band is enough for reaching.
Will it fit?
Match the pad length to the person. The two stock lengths are below.
- 12 in (30.5 cm): dynamic ATS9601 or structured ATS9701.
- 18 in (45.7 cm): dynamic ATS9603 or structured ATS9703.
We confirm the pad length and the chair's back hardware before you order.
Using it day to day
A seating specialist sets the first fit so the pads retract the shoulders without riding up the neck.
- Dynamic and structured are different part numbers. One support does not switch.
- Use the 12 in or 18 in pad from the assessment. Those are the two stock lengths.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It straps to the wheelchair back it was fitted to. The chair, cushion, and back are separate.
- It positions the trunk. It is not a vehicle seatbelt. In a vehicle, use it only if it carries the ISO 16840-4 marking.
- The straps have to reach that back. Not every back accepts them.
- No user weight is set for the support alone. The therapist matches it to the person.
Which version should I choose?
Pick dynamic or structured first, then 12 in or 18 in. Stock lengths are those two pads in each construction.
How does it compare?
- Jay Classic: one broad chest panel, dynamic or structured, in sizes from early intervention up.
- Jay centre-opening buckle: two chest pads that open at a centre buckle for transfers.
- Jay padded anterior trunk strap: a short horizontal pad for reaching, not a shoulder harness.

Frequently asked questions
Can one backpack support switch from dynamic to structured?
No. Dynamic lengths are ATS9601 and ATS9603. Structured lengths are ATS9701 and ATS9703. Order the construction you need.
What pad lengths can I order?
Stock pads are 12 in (30.5 cm) and 18 in (45.7 cm), in dynamic or structured. There is no width-by-depth chart for this shape.
Can it be used as a seatbelt in a vehicle?
Only one carrying the ISO 16840-4 marking is rated for use as a vehicle restraint. Otherwise it positions the trunk and is not a vehicle restraint.
What does not come in the box?
The wheelchair, the cushion, and the back. You receive one support in the pad length and construction ordered.
