Joerns N228AL Extra Mattress Stop

The Joerns N228AL is one assist-handle mount with a mattress stop for an EasyCare (ECS) or UltraCare XT (UCXT). The handle is a separate part.

What does it do and how does it work?

It puts a mattress stop on the sleep deck where an assist handle mounts.

• Catalog N228AL is the mount and the stop in one part.
• On an EasyCare, these stops keep the mattress from sliding sideways or toward the head and foot.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It is for an EasyCare or UltraCare XT that needs a stop at an assist handle.

• Choose another part for any other frame. Send the bed model and the serial under the foot deck, and we confirm before you order.
• A nurse, doctor or therapist decides whether an assist device suits the person.

Will it fit?

The mattress still has to fill the deck up to the stop.

• A short or narrow mattress leaves a gap this part cannot close.
• Health Canada recommends gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) inside a rail, under a rail, and between the rail and the mattress. Check that gap once the handle and this stop are on.
• The bed's safe working load still applies.

Using it day to day

Fit the mount where the handle goes, and lock the handle before anyone uses it.

• After a raise, lower or profile, the mattress should still meet the stop.
• Do not sit or slide on the stop if the mattress compresses to less than 1.5 in (3.8 cm). Skin can be injured.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

It works beside an assist handle. It does not replace a rail or stop a fall.

• Pair it with the F026 pivoting assist handle or the F028 deluxe assist handle.

How does it compare?

• The Joerns mattress retainer set (39001317) holds a mattress, and it is not this mount.
• N517 and N518 are UltraCare XT side-stop pairs for a 76 in (193 cm) or 80 in (203 cm) head.
• The F028 is only the handhold.
