Description
The Orthex Sophia 4 Double, item 425474, is a hi-low homecare bed on lockable casters for a person who needs deck height and Trendelenburg at home.
What does it do and how does it work?
A wireless backlit remote moves the head, the foot, the lumbar, the deck height and the tilt.
- Head to 68 degrees, foot to 9 in (229 mm), lumbar to 4 in (102 mm).
- The deck travels about 18 in, from about 12 in (305 mm) to about 30 in (762 mm).
- Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg each tilt to 16 degrees.
- The Double has seven motors, vibro-massage, underbed lighting and a waterproof cover.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It is for home care that needs deck height and tilt. Choose another base if you do not need both.
Will it fit?
The Double sleep surface is 54 by 74 in (1372 by 1880 mm), rated 900 lb (408 kg), person and mattress together.
- Underbed clearance is 6 in (152 mm) on an open frame with lockable casters.
- A free home assessment checks the room and the route in.
Using it day to day
Set the base on a flat, stable floor and lock the casters. Wipe with a damp cloth.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
Use a bending foam, latex or hybrid mattress and no box spring. The mattress is sold separately. See medical mattresses.
- Optional black steel rails: fixed 16.5 by 20 in (419 by 508 mm), short retractable 28 by 22 in (711 by 559 mm), or long retractable 58 by 22 in (1473 by 559 mm). See bed accessories.
- The optional pale grey headboard is 30 in (762 mm) high and the footboard is 20 in (508 mm) high.
- Health Canada says to check mattress size and type before using rails. Rail use is a care-team decision.
- The frame is warranted for life and the electrical parts for 3 years. Claims go to Orthex. See warranty.
Which version should I choose?
Item 425474 is the Double.
- Twin XL is 38 by 80 in (965 by 2032 mm) at 800 lb (363 kg), with five motors.
- The Sophia 4 Queen is 60 by 80 in (1524 by 2032 mm) at 900 lb (408 kg), with seven motors.
- A split king is two Twin XL bases.
How does it compare?
Choose the Sophia 3 or the Sophia 2 when you do not need tilt or a rolling frame.
- The Sophia 3 raises the deck on legs. No Trendelenburg. The Double has five motors and 8 in (203 mm) of clearance.
- The Sophia 2 adjusts head, foot and lumbar only. The deck does not rise or roll.
- More frames are on homecare beds.
Frequently asked questions
Will the bed still move in a power cut?
Lithium battery backup is included, so height, tilt and the sections still run when mains power is out.
Can I use a headboard I already own?
The Double works with most residential headboards. The pale grey headboard and footboard kit is optional.
Can a patient lift go under this frame?
Only if the lift base is lower than the 6 in (152 mm) clearance on the open frame.
