Outdoor stairlifts in Toronto and the GTA

Getting in and out of the house matters as much as the stairs inside. Only a lift its maker sells for outdoor use goes outside, and each maker sets its own weather limits. We measure your steps for free and tell you plainly what suits them.

The lifts

Four stairlifts that can go outside

One is built for outdoor steps; three are lifts with an outdoor package from their maker. Tick Compare on up to three to see them side by side.

Winter, covers and parking

What the makers say about the weather

Access BDD certifies the HomeGlide Outdoor from -15 °C to 50 °C (5 °F to 122 °F), so the coldest Ontario days fall outside that range. Savaria says the outdoor packages for the Handicare 1000, the Savaria K2 and the Handicare 4000 are for moderate climates.

  • The HomeGlide Outdoor has a cover against rain, dust and sun, and a key lock
  • Savaria's outdoor packages use weather-resistant seats and corrosion-resistant hardware
  • The powered options of the 1000 are not available outdoors
  • We talk through where the lift goes, how it is covered and where it parks before you decide

The free home measure

What we check on your steps

  • The run of the steps, the landing at the top and the ground at the bottom
  • Where the chair parks, and how it is covered
  • Shade, water and what the steps face
  • How the rider gets on and off, and who else uses the steps

Cost

What an outdoor stairlift costs depends on your steps

The lift, the outdoor package, the length of the steps and the work to fit the rail outside change the price. That is why we measure first.

How we price

  • Every outdoor stairlift is quoted after the measure. The written quote is the price for your steps.

The free home measure is free, and nothing is ordered until you approve the quote.

Questions

Outdoor stairlift questions

Anything else, ask us. Most answers take a minute on the phone.

How much does an outdoor stairlift cost?

It depends on the lift, the rail, the seat and options, and the installation. We measure for free and give you a written quote. Nothing is ordered until you approve it.

How we price

Can an indoor stairlift go outside?

No. Use only a lift the maker sells for outdoor use, such as the HomeGlide Outdoor or an outdoor package, and talk to us about where it goes and how it is covered in winter.

Can I see one before I decide?

Contact us before you travel to check which models you can see at our Etobicoke or Brampton showroom.

Showroom addresses and hours

Can I stay in my wheelchair?

No. A stairlift needs a move onto its seat. If that is hard, a porch or platform lift carries the wheelchair, and your occupational therapist can help you decide.

See porch and platform lifts

How long does it take to install?

We confirm the dates in your written quote, once the lift and rail are chosen.

Can an outdoor stairlift be used in winter?

Access BDD certifies the HomeGlide Outdoor from -15 °C to 50 °C, so the coldest Ontario days fall outside that range. Savaria says its outdoor packages are for moderate climates. We talk through where it goes and how it is covered.

Our outdoor steps turn. Is there a lift for that?

Ask about the Handicare 4000: Savaria makes an outdoor package for it for moderate climates, where it is offered. We check it for your address.
