Description
The Evac+Chair Power 800 is a battery-powered tracked stair chair that a trained operator guides up and down stairs; the passenger sits harnessed and does not control it.
What does it do, and how does it work?
- The tracks carry the chair over the stair nosings while the operator holds the up or down button; on level floors it rolls on its wheels.
- One operator guides it; a second person is advised below the chair and on plastic or synthetic nosings, for heavier passengers or steep stairs.
- The passenger wears a four-point quick-release harness and has a padded, height-adjustable headrest; the rear wheels lock.
- The handle panel has on/off, up and down buttons, an LED light and one speed.
- 66 lbs (30 kg); folded 45 in high x 19.5 in wide x 10.6 in deep (114.3 x 49.5 x 26.9 cm).
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- A passenger who cannot manage stairs: home trips, evacuation, a power outage or a stopped elevator.
- The passenger cannot drive it; it needs a trained operator.
- A chair fixed to the stairs with the rider in control: a stairlift. Level floors only: a transport chair.
Will it fit?
- Straight flights and stairs with flat landings; not curved, spiral or winder stairs.
- At least 23 in (58 cm) at the narrowest point and 20 to 40 degrees steep.
- 440 lbs (200 kg) passenger capacity.
- Measure the stair width, angle and turns before ordering, or book a home assessment.
Using it day to day
- Open it by unclipping the belt, lowering the seat, raising the handle to position 1, then pressing the paddle and pulling the tracks out.
- To descend, set the handle to position 2, tilt back until the tracks meet the floor and hold down; to ascend, back onto the bottom two nosings and hold up.
- Insert the key, turn it to power the battery and press the power button; a full charge takes 1.5 hours and lasts over 200 flights.
- If the battery is low or power fails, the switch gives a non-powered descent; it cannot climb without power.
- Fold the tracks in and hang the chair on the supplied wall hooks, fixed 30 in (76 cm) above the floor.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- The 440 lbs (200 kg) capacity applies only on the stair types listed.
- Never leave the passenger unattended, and always use the harness.
- Do not oil the tracks or belts, and use only the supplied battery and charger.
- The motor has no user-serviceable parts; Evac+Chair engineers service it, and keep the original packaging for any return.
- Certificated operator training and regular practice are advised; a delivery walk-through is not that certificate.
How does it compare?
- A stairlift has a rail fixed to the stairs and the rider controls it.
- A transport chair is for level floors and cannot climb.
- Evac+Chair's Power 900 is the heavier model, rated 560 lbs (254 kg) with four speeds.
Frequently asked questions
What if the battery runs out on the stairs?
The override switch gives a non-powered descent; the chair cannot climb without power.
Does it need a rail or installation?
No; nothing is fixed to the stairs. The hooks can hang it folded 30 in (76 cm) off the floor.
Can it replace a daily wheelchair?
It rolls on level floors but the passenger cannot drive it; for daily use, choose a wheelchair.
