Description

Sunrise Medical JAY anterior trunk supports are chest harnesses for a wheelchair, in six styles and in structured or dynamic construction.

What does it do and how does it work?

  • The neoprene panel or strap holds the trunk upright when posture slips forward.
  • Structured parts hold a set position through the day. Dynamic parts give with high tone or involuntary movement.
  • Closure is a side-release buckle or a zipper, depending on the style.
  • JAY Your Way modifications are not offered on this range.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

They suit someone who needs support across the chest or shoulders and still uses a manual or tilt wheelchair.

  • Choose a structured support when posture drifts gradually.
  • Choose a dynamic support when tone or involuntary movement is part of the day.
  • If the need is head control, add a headrest and look at wheelchair backs as well.

Will it fit?

Width is across the chest. Depth is up and down the pad, and it is not the same on every style. The full pad chart is on each style page.

  • Classic and Contour: 6.5 to 11.5 in wide (16.5 to 29.2 cm). Contour has less chest contact, and its medium pad is 18.5 in deep.
  • Zipper Open: 8.5 to 11.5 in wide (21.6 to 29.2 cm). Centre-opening: 5 to 10 in wide (12.7 to 25.4 cm).
  • Trunk strap: 8 to 16 in wide (20.3 to 40.6 cm) and only 3 to 4 in deep (7.6 to 10.2 cm). Y-Style: 15 to 25 in wide (38.1 to 63.5 cm).
  • Tell us the wheelchair back and the chest width, and we confirm the style and size before you order.

Using it day to day

Fasten it after the transfer, at the fit the seating specialist set. Open the buckle or zipper when the chest needs to come free.

  • One support is one style and one construction. It does not switch from dynamic to structured.
  • A pelvic belt stays fastened. This support is not used without it.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

Each support straps to a solid back set about at shoulder height. The strap anchors are separate.

  • It positions the trunk, not a vehicle seatbelt. In a vehicle, use it only with the ISO 16840-4 marking.
  • Not every size fits every back. The style page has the pad sizes.

Which version should I choose?

How does it compare?

The backpack style draws the shoulders back when that is the goal. See the anterior trunk supports, or book a free home assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Can it stay fastened during a transfer?

The buckle or zipper is there so the chest can open. A therapist sets whether it stays fastened for that transfer.

Does it replace a pelvic belt?

No. It supports the chest. A pelvic belt stays fastened whenever this support is worn.

Which style leaves an arm free?

Y-Style leaves one arm freer to reach. The trunk strap leaves both shoulders freer.

Will one size grow with the person?

No. Each support is one size. The centre-opening style has the finest chest adjustment within its width.
