Description
Airgo's Comfort-Plus quad cane puts four legs under the shaft in place of a single tip. The base turns on a K-shaped joint and locks, so the cane can be set for the hand you hold it in. The maker rates it to 300 lb (136 kg) and builds the shaft from anodized aluminium.
What the swivel base changes
The K-shaped base rotates and then locks. Set it one way and the wide part of the footprint takes your weight on the right; set it the other way and the same cane suits the left. One cane therefore serves either hand.
Standing on its own
With the legs spread, the cane stands upright while you reach for a door handle or a rail, so you are not bending down to pick it up off the floor. That is the maker's free-standing claim, and it is the reason many buyers choose this shape.
The trade-off
A wide base is steadier, but four legs are slower to swing forward than one tip, and this cane weighs 4.4 lb (2 kg). If you want the lightest stick for balance, ask us and we will say so.
Setting the height
The shaft carries 11 individual height settings and the maker says it fits most people between 5 ft 0 in and 6 ft 5 in. Hold the cane in the hand opposite the side that needs the support, grip level with the crease at your wrist. Our free home assessment sets it with you.
Who a quad base suits
Four points of contact help on carpet or where a mat can slide. If you would rather hook a cane over your arm when your hands are full, start with the single-tip canes and cane accessories in our walking aids range.

Frequently asked questions
Which hand should I hold a quad cane in?
The hand opposite the side that needs support, the same as any cane. The maker's base then turns and locks so the wide part of the footprint sits where your weight goes.
Can I turn the base round for my left hand?
Yes. The K-shaped base swivels and locks into position, and the maker builds it so it accommodates right- or left-handed users.
Is a quad cane harder to walk with than a single tip?
It moves differently, with more to swing forward and 4.4 lb (2 kg) to lift. Tell us how you walk and we will say which shape we would start with.
Do the tips on the legs wear out?
Tips wear with use on any cane. The maker lists no spare tip for this model, so tell us what has worn and we will source the correct one from the supplier.
Does the cane come apart for travel?
The maker lists no folding or quick-release on this model, so the shaft adjusts for height but the base stays on. If you need a cane that folds into a bag, ask us.
