Description

The Ki Mobility Axiom Custom Back (E2617) is a rigid wheelchair back made to the shape, width and height chosen with the order for a user who needs a made-to-measure fit.

What does it do and how does it work?

It supports the trunk with a formed aluminum shell, foam and a cover.

  • Three shapes: AXCPB 2.25 in (57 mm) lateral depth, AXCPL 3.75 in (95 mm), AXCDL 6 in (152 mm).
  • Hardware: DEX or BTX removable adjustable, or FXT fixed, included.
  • Weight capacity: 300 lbs (136 kg) with DEX or FXT, 400 lbs (181 kg) with BTX.
  • Adjustments: 3.3 in (8.3 cm) height, 2 in (5.1 cm) width, 1.5 to 2 in depth and up to 20 degrees of angle.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a person whose seating assessment calls for a made-to-measure back: an unusual torso shape, a fixed asymmetry, or a size between stocked ranges. An occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses and chooses the shape.

Choose a stocked back from our wheelchair backrests if a symmetric standard shape fits.

Will it fit?

  • Back: 12 to 24 in (30.5 to 61 cm) wide and high.
  • Standard: 12 to 22 in wide by 12 to 22 in high; complex 12 to 24 by 8 to 24 in, in 1 in steps.
  • Chair width: within 2 in (5.1 cm) narrower or wider than the back.
  • Finished height: add 2 in (51 mm) to the shell height.

Using it day to day

We mount the hardware and set height, depth and angle; the back lifts off for cleaning.

  • Cover: machine wash hot at 60°C, line dry, no bleach or dry cleaning.
  • Foam and shell: wipe with soap and water; do not immerse the foam.
  • Travel: tested to ANSI/RESNA WC-4 Section 20 and ISO 16840-4; back top within 5.5 in (14 cm) of the shoulder.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • Works with: Axiom headrests, lateral and anterior trunk supports.
  • Short backs: 12 in high or less cannot take accessory laterals, a headrest mount or anterior supports.
  • Not a restraint: headrests and laterals do not replace an occupant restraint; do not lift or push the chair by the back.
  • Custom order: not returnable once in production; read the return policy first.
  • Warranty: 24 months on the shell and foam, 6 months on the covers; see the Warranty tab.

Which version should I choose?

  • Shape: AXCPB posterior, AXCPL posterior lateral, AXCDL deep lateral.
  • Hardware: DEX for most chairs, BTX for 23 to 24 in backs and up to 400 lbs (181 kg), FXT to keep the back fixed.
  • Cover: Axiom fabric or TekStretch wipeable, with optional embroidery.

How does it compare?

A Max TrueFitt is a moulded foam back; a Prism TrueFitt is a rigid back. Choose it when the measured size or contour falls outside them, or read the backrest guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order a width or height in half inches?

No. Complex orders use 1 in (25 mm) increments; standard sizes are even inches.

Can I move the back to a second wheelchair?

The back lifts off its receivers, which stay on the first chair; a second chair needs its own hardware.

How do I clean the foam?

Wipe it with soap and water and let it dry; do not immerse the foam.
