Description

The Drive Side Walker, item 10240-1, is an adult one-hand hemi walker: a four-legged frame you hold with one hand while the other arm stays free.

What does it do and how does it work?

  • Four legs give a wider base than a cane, and at 4 lb (1.8 kg) it is lighter than a two-hand walker.
  • The aluminium frame folds with the hand that holds the grip.
  • The grips are grey and each leg ends in a tip; there are no wheels.
  • The handles adjust from 29.5 to 36.5 in (74.9 to 92.7 cm).
  • It carries up to 300 lb (136 kg).

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • It suits someone with the use of one hand or one arm who needs more than a cane but not a two-hand walker.
  • It does not replace a two-hand walker for someone who needs both arms on the grips; a therapist can advise on that change.
  • It is lifted forward, not rolled.

Will it fit?

  • Set the grip near the wrist of the holding arm, with that arm hanging and a small bend at the elbow.
  • All four legs must be set to the same height, with the tips meeting the floor together.
  • Measure your wrist height against the 29.5 to 36.5 in range; our free home assessment checks it with you.
  • Do not use it on stairs.

Using it day to day

  • Open it until the hinge locks before you lean on the frame; a half-open frame can fold as you lean.
  • Fold it against a wall, a bed or your leg, away from a crowd, and keep your fingers clear of the hinge.
  • Use it on firm, level surfaces, and replace a tip once it wears smooth with a tip that fits these legs.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • The capacity is 300 lb (136 kg), for one person.
  • It is sold with tips and no wheels; a wheel changes how the base stops, so choose a rolling walker if you need to roll.
  • The warranty is limited lifetime.

How does it compare?

  • A cane has one tip; this frame has four, so it stands on its own base.
  • A two-hand walker puts both arms on the grips and is the choice when one arm is not enough.
  • A four-wheel rollator adds wheels and a seat.

We deliver and set up across Toronto and the GTA, setting all four legs level. Our service team handles repairs and replacement tips.

Frequently asked questions

Which hand does this walker fit?

Either hand. Hold the grip on the side you can load; it is not a left-only or right-only frame.

Can I add a wheel to one leg?

No. The item is sold with tips, and a wheel changes how the base stops. Ask for a rolling walker if you need to roll.

How do I fold it with one hand?

Use the hand on the grip, brace the frame against your leg or a sofa, and keep your fingers clear of the hinge.

Is a cane enough instead?

A cane has one tip and this frame has four. If you are steady with a cane, try both before switching.
