Description
The Empulse StreetJet is a front handbike the rider steers, for outdoor miles on a manual wheelchair.
Who it helps, and who should pick another Empulse
- It suits a rider who can work the throttle and the clamps on paths and longer rides.
- Pick the Empulse F35 for a lighter city pull, not this outdoor handbike.
- Pick the Empulse R20 if a caregiver will push. This is not an attendant drive.
- Powered rear wheels are separate: see the Empulse M90.
Will it fit the chair?
The manual fits round tubes of 19 to 24 mm or 25 to 35 mm. It does not fit swing-away footrests, and clamps must not sit on a removable footrest.
Inside width is 220 to 275 mm, 275 to 330 mm, or 330 to 425 mm. You need 45 mm of straight tube, and at least 322 mm from the floor to the clamp.
- Tell us the chair model and we confirm the clamp before you order.
- A 12 in wheel is 638 x 580 x 803 mm. A 16 in wheel is 667 x 580 x 850 mm (length, width, height).
- The target angle is about 80 degrees to the ground.
Use limits
- User limit 120 kg (265 lb). Speeds are 6 km/h (3.7 mph), or 10 km/h (6.2 mph) or 15 km/h (9.3 mph) if ordered.
- Range is up to 50 km (31.1 miles) with the 14 Ah battery, under ISO 7176-4. Hills, cold, and rider weight shorten it.
- Tires are 12 in or 16 in pneumatic. Twin disc brakes are listed, with a triple disc as an option.
- The spec table lists 2 years on the motor and the battery. A worn battery is also named as normal wear.
How it compares
The F35 is the lighter urban pull. A push from behind is the Empulse R90.
Chairs are under wheelchairs. We can check the tubes at home: book a free home assessment.
Frequently asked questions
Will it clamp to swing-away footrests?
No. It cannot fit swing-away footrests, and a clamp on a removable footrest can damage the chair.
Can I stay in the chair in a car?
No. With it docked, you transfer to a vehicle seat. You must not ride in the chair during transport.
Is a 20 km/h version sold in Canada?
Not on the current Canada page. That page lists 6, 10, or 15 km/h. We confirm the speed build on the quote.
