Description
This vest is for rising from a chair to standing. The 28 Dec 2020 sheet says it needs a knee block, such as a bed or a frame, and a person trained to fit it.
Which lift does it fit?
- All four straps go to a Handicare loop carry bar, the same colour on each side. Lower the bar to about eye level before you attach them.
- The sheet says it is not suitable for every ceiling lift. Ask us which bar is named for your lift.
- Health Canada says the sling and the lift must both be rated for the person, and the maker must approve the pairing. Inspect for fraying (patient lifts and risk of fall).
Who is it for?
- A seated person who can take part in standing, for a pivot, the toilet, or walking practice. The chest piece keeps the straps in place. It is not there to hold the person's weight while they stand.
- Leg sections come up between the thighs. Four buckles snug them. Two more buckles close the chest.
- The sheet's heading says not to leave it under the person.
Which size?
- Junior 507905, small 507910, medium 507920, large 507930, extra large 507940, XXL 507950. The sheet calls each one quilted mesh. The 2026 code line says poly. The medium photo is mesh.
- Disposable sizes 547112-10 through 547117-10 are a different item. There is no junior disposable on that list.
- One load is printed: 600 lbs (272 kg). It is not split by size.
Care
- Laundry bag, up to 176 F (80 C). The sheet names polyester and polyurethane.
- The 4-year line is a service life, not a warranty. Retire it if a strap is torn.
Compare
- A closed hammock is a different shape. See full body slings.
- An open seat for the toilet, without a chest vest, is under toileting slings.
- The lift is separate. Start from sit to stand lifts and slings.
Frequently asked questions
Does the chest piece hold the person up?
No. The sheet says the chest piece keeps the straps from riding up. It is not a support for their weight, and it does not hold them standing.
Can it be left in the chair?
The sheet's heading says it is not suitable to leave under the person.
Is the disposable vest this item?
No. Disposable codes start at 547112-10. This page is the reusable 5079 series.
