Description

The JAY GS is a paediatric seating cushion from Sunrise Medical that is built to change as a child grows: a contoured closed cell foam base, a JAY Flow fluid pad, and shelf extenders that add front length as the legs get longer.

What is the JAY GS cushion?

  • A foam and fluid cushion: a closed cell base with a large well cutout and contracture cutouts, an oversized JAY Flow fluid pad, and a stretch cover.
  • 2.5" high without positioning components, 6.9 lb, and rated to 350 lb in the maker's owner's manual.

Which size do I order?

  • Widths 10" to 18" and depths 10" to 20", in five items: JGS10 (10.2" x 13.2"), JGS12 (12.1" x 15"), JGS14 (14.1" x 17"), JGS16 (15.8" x 18.9") and JGS18 (17.7" x 19.9").
  • Measure across the seated hips; the depth runs from the rear cutout to about 1" short of the back of the knees.
  • Sizes the maker's matrix does not hold are JAY Your Way orders, with an M in front of the item number; a special order is not returnable (see our return policy).

Growing with the cushion

  • One pre-ischial shelf extender is included, and each further one grows the cushion by 1" while holding the anti-thrust shelf in place. The front edge may overhang the seat base by up to 2".
  • Lateral pelvic and thigh supports sit on the loop Velcro base, move 1" inward per side, then back out as the child grows.

Living with the cushion

  • A clinician fits the cushion and sets the fluid. Check the skin daily for redness and stop using the cushion if it appears.
  • Check the cover, base and pad monthly; knead the fluid back if it feels firm, and wash the pad and base with warm water and soap, never steam autoclaved.
  • The cover takes a moderate machine wash and tumble dry, not dry cleaning. The base carries 24 months and a fault goes through warranty service.
