Description
The Parsons 16D005 is a stocking aid: a curved moulded plastic blade with two nylon webbing straps. The blade holds the sock open while you pull it up your leg, so the work moves from your hip to your arms.
How you use it
- Gather the stocking to the toe and pull it onto the blade.
- Sit securely, with both straps in your hand.
- Lower the aid to the floor, holding the straps.
- Slide your foot into the blade.
- Pull the straps alternately to draw the stocking up your leg.
Those are Parsons's own steps, from the maker's sheet linked below. Either hand works.
Where it helps
Getting a sock over the toes is the hardest part of dressing when a hip or knee will not bend far.
A bathroom safety aid covers a different part of the day, and a free home assessment looks at the whole room.
Flexible blade or rigid aid?
This blade bends, so it follows your leg. Parsons also makes rigid sock aids, the Deluxe Rigid 16D037A and the Sock Horse 16D008A, for a hand that cannot manage a soft strap pulling back. Ask us and we will point you to one.
Compression stockings
Parsons lists separate compression models, the 16D029 and the Extra Compression Stocking Aid, and never lists this 16D005 for a firm garment. Ask us before you rely on it.
What Parsons does not publish
The maker gives no length, no weight limit, no colour, no care instructions and no warranty. We state none of those rather than guess them.
Frequently asked questions
Will it work for compression stockings?
Parsons makes separate compression aids and does not list this one for that job. Tell us what you wear and we will check.
How long is it, and will it reach my foot?
Parsons publishes no length for 16D005, so we cannot give a figure. Ask us and we will measure one in the shop.
Can I wash it?
The maker gives no care instructions for the blade or the straps, so ask us first.
Does it have a weight limit?
Parsons publishes no capacity, so we will not print a number. The load is one leg, pulled by your arm.
Is it made in Canada?
Yes. Parsons states that it manufactures this aid in Canada.
A dressing aid cannot be returned once it has been used, under our return policy. We deliver across Toronto and the GTA, and you can try one in our showroom.
