Description
The Switch-It VersaGuide EZ is a compact proportional joystick. The rider pushes it forward, back or to either side, and the chair moves in proportion to the push, so it drives smoothly rather than switching on and off.
Who is the VersaGuide EZ for?
It suits a rider with weak or limited hand movement who still has some reach, and it can also be driven from the chin, where the maker recommends the EZ with a chin cup. Book a free home assessment or visit our showroom.
How light is the touch?
About 120 g of force takes it to full speed, with 12 degrees of travel from neutral to full throw. The standard VersaGuide needs about 240 g and 22 degrees, so the EZ suits a rider who tires easily.
Where can it be mounted?
On the armrest or in the midline, on a SpaceDisk hand tray modified to fit, or on the Active Controls mount. For chin or mouth control there is the BDN3 platform, which sits around the neck and moves with the rider, in 6" or 8", or a swing away chin boom behind the headrest.
Will it fit my power chair?
It needs a chair that takes an alternative drive control. The maker lists Penny and Giles R-Net with the Omni, Quantum Q-Logic and Curtis Enable 50 with the Enhanced Display, and Dynamic Controls DX2 with the DX dongle. We confirm your chair's electronics with Sunrise Medical before ordering.
Funding help for a joystick in Ontario
Depending on the person's needs and assessment, funding may be available for mobility equipment in Ontario. Our team works with funding programs every week and can point you to the right route before you buy. See our funding guide or call (905) 798-1853.
Delivery, service and warranty
We set the joystick up with the rider. The maker's manual prints twelve months on the electronic components and the mounting hardware, and three months on wearable items such as pads. The paperwork sits on our documents page.
How does it compare?
See our wheelchair accessories for flex switches and mode switches, and our power wheelchairs for the chair itself.
Frequently asked questions
What is a SmartJack port?
A socket on the underside of the joystick that adapts by itself, so a proximity or a mechanical switch can be plugged in.
How does the EZ differ from the VersaGuide?
Only in the force and the throw: about 120 g and 12 degrees on the EZ against 240 g and 22 degrees on the VersaGuide.
Can a switch work alongside the joystick?
Yes. The joystick has two built-in connections for mode and on/off, and a mode switch package can be added.
