Description
The Switch-It VersaGuide is a fully proportional joystick for a power chair. The rider pushes it forward, back or to either side, and the chair moves in proportion, so it drives smoothly rather than switching on and off.
Who is the VersaGuide for?
It suits a rider with enough hand strength to hold and move the joystick, including someone who tires during the day. Chin and mouth control are possible too. Book a free home assessment or visit our showroom.
How does it feel to drive?
About 240 g of force takes it to full speed, with 22 degrees of travel. The lighter VersaGuide EZ needs about 120 g and 12 degrees, so this one asks for a firmer push.
Where can it be mounted?
On the armrest or in the midline, on a BulletTray or SpaceDisk hand tray, or on the Active Controls system. For chin or mouth control there is the BDN3 platform, worn around the neck in 6" or 8", or a swing away chin boom.
Will it fit my power chair?
The maker lists Penny and Giles R-Net with the Omni, Quantum Q-Logic and Curtis Enable 50 with the Enhanced Display, and Dynamic Controls DX2 with the DX dongle. We confirm your chair's electronics with Sunrise Medical before a quote.
Funding help for a joystick in Ontario
Depending on the person's needs and assessment, funding may be available for mobility equipment in Ontario. Our team works with funding programs every week and can point you to the right route. See our funding guide or call (905) 798-1853.
Delivery, service and warranty
We set the joystick up with the rider and check what is plugged into each SmartJack. The maker's manual prints twelve months on the electronic components and the mounting hardware, and three months on wearable items. The paperwork is on our documents page.
How does it compare?
Our wheelchair accessories page covers the flex switches and mode switches, and our power wheelchairs page covers the chair.
Frequently asked questions
What are the two SmartJack ports for?
Sensor inputs on the underside of the joystick that adapt by themselves, so proximity or mechanical switches can be plugged in. One is set up through the chair's programming as a user switch.
How much force does the VersaGuide need?
About 240 g to reach full speed, with 22 degrees of travel. The VersaGuide EZ is the lighter of the two at about 120 g and 12 degrees.
Can it be driven from the chin?
Yes. The BDN3 platform goes around the neck and moves with the rider, or a swing away chin boom mounts behind the headrest.
