Description
The Posture Corrector is for a back that slumps when it is held in one position for a long time: at a desk, in a car or in a chair. Tynor builds it as a soft brace, so it can be worn through the day and taken off when it is not needed.
How the straps work
Two broad straps cross behind the back and come over the shoulders to fasten at the front. The maker's wording is that they apply gentle pressure on the shoulders to bring them back, and a rigid panel of divided splints runs down the spine, which is what the straps pull against.
Materials and fit
The fabric is light and breathable, and the hook-loop panels are wide, so the pull can be set tighter or softer without the strap digging in.
Which size to order
Medium fits a chest of 86 to 102 cm, Large 102 to 117 cm and Extra large 117 to 132 cm. At the top of a band, the maker advises the next size up. Tynor's Small and child sizes are made but not carried here.
Other support in the room
A brace holds the shoulders while it is worn; the chair a person sits in holds the rest. Backrests and cushions are the seating parts that give the spine something to rest against, and the wheelchairs section covers the chairs that take a person between rooms.
The wider range sits under patient room products. Where posture support is part of a bigger mobility problem, funding may help with the cost, and we can assess the home before equipment is chosen.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I measure for the size?
Around the chest, under the arms, with the tape level. Medium covers 86 to 102 cm, Large 102 to 117 cm and Extra large 117 to 132 cm, and the maker advises the next size up at the top of a band.
Is it a rigid brace or a soft one?
It is soft where it touches the body: light, breathable fabric with broad hook-loop panels. The rigid part is the panel of divided splints that runs down the spine.
Can it be worn under clothing?
The straps sit flat over the shoulders and the panels are broad rather than bulky. The maker gives no thickness figure, so if it has to disappear under a shirt, try it over a light top first.
Does it treat a spinal condition?
No. It is a support worn to hold the shoulders back while it is on. A diagnosed spinal condition needs a clinician's advice, and this page claims no treatment.
